Details here. Or at least confirmation. I expect this signing is an OKC move, with Danis offering the team depth in case either starter Devan Dubnyk or backup Nikolai Khabibulin are injured or slump. At the wonderful NJ blog
IN LOU WE TRUST, the group talked about Danis who was a free agent one year ago (before signing in the KHL).
John Fischer, ILWT: A Quick Opinion: Danis didn't play all that much, but he was serviceable when he came in for relief or in spot duty as a starter. If he sticks around, I wouldn't mind.
I think this is 11-12's Gerber. I'd also guess the Oilers aren't completely set in goal.
I guess this changes a few things.
ReplyDeleteMeh..has lots of pro experience.I assume he was signed to mentor Roy.
ReplyDelete49 contracts?
ReplyDeleteI think we'll see something soon.
ReplyDeleteIf they sign the remaining RFA's (O'Marra, Cogliano and Chorney), that puts them at 52 contracts.
ReplyDelete*waiting for other foot to drop*
Isn't it 49 with the other RFAs?
ReplyDeleteYes. 49, with qualified rfa's included.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have a theory on why Peckham was only signed for 1 year? I get that he is still an RFA next year, but either he wanted a ridiculous number, or the Oilers are betting he won't be worth more next summer, no?
ReplyDelete(my bad on the contract number...)
ReplyDeleteClay...I saw a Gregor tweet confirming both sides want to see where he's at before committing long term. The guy only has one NHL season under his belt.
ReplyDeleteLike others have commented, I sure wish they'd take a look at Khudobin as an option. Seems to have decent stats in the limited time he's played and shouldn't cost an arm and leg to obtain. Unless of course Boston has plans for him which doesn't seem likely.
ReplyDeleteI believe Boston has already signed him. Holtby in WAS is a player of interest.
ReplyDelete@ Gord,
ReplyDeleteThanks. Makes sense.
Lowetide said...I believe Boston has already signed him. Holtby in WAS is a player of interest.
ReplyDeleteSaw that but still wonder where he fits in Boston's plans and if a simple Cogs for would be all it takes.
You think Wash would move Holtby before Neuvirth LT?
Lowetide: At 21, Holtby's pro resume looks sterling. What does it take to trade for a player like this? Is the Habs' trade of Halak (he was 25) comparable? If so, bring it on.
ReplyDeleteThere has to be deal coming right away where 1,2 or 3 bodies are leaving town and only 1 is coming back. Right? RIGHT!??!?!??!
ReplyDeleteDBO has been pleading for a quantity for quality trade for about 4 seasons now. I think he might be getting his wish in the next couple of weeks.
Rishaug was on with Stauffer on Oiler's Lunch and he brought up the prospect of an offer sheet for Karl Alzner of Wsh. With them being so tight to the cap, they probably couldn't match.
Heard some talk that Washington thinks Holtby is the future. Nuevirth might be more available given the Vokoun signing creates an immediate option.
ReplyDeleteStill don't think the Oilers are going to address the NHL Goaltender situation. They'll give Khabibulin the chance and Dubnyk the at-bats.
Gord Miller says something is close, just finalizing. Twitter

ReplyDeleteThat doesn't help the Caps with space much though and all we've done is piss off another GM in the process. It sure might make dealing for Green a little cheaper though.
Cogliano + Creme de + pick?
kris, I believe you're reading the fake Gord Miller (@GordMillerTSN) as opposed to the real one (@GMillerTSN).
ReplyDeleteKris, that Gord Miller twitter account is a fake.
ReplyDeleteI like this signing. Danis is a quality netminder and should be a great addition to the Barons. And he just turned 30 last month so he should have lots of hockey ahead of him too.
Fucking fake Gord Miller. I hate replicants.
ReplyDeleteThis is the fake Kris account, though, so it's okay.
If Danis is in OKC with Roy, how are they going to demote reKhab there?
ReplyDeleteI don't know about DBO, but I've been screaming for once since we dealt 94 and 44 for magic beans.
ReplyDeleteCogliano, Plante and a 2nd for someone who can actually play? Yes please.
Kris: Hello SS.
ReplyDeleteYann Danis' last 3 seasons:
KHL 33 GP ,910
NJ 11 GP ,923
NYI 33 GP ,910
BRI 10 GP ,924
Not bad. Honestly I'd rather have them flush Khabibulin and sub Danis than make him play in the AHL.
SS?
ReplyDeleteFPB: if no other goaltender is acquired (and they may not be quite done), the Oilers may be intending for a training camp competition. Good chance Khabby loses that and heads to the AHL.
ReplyDeleteKris: I remember someone saying that you and SS were the same person or something of the sort. Maybe it was Woodguy.

ReplyDeleteYes, but the personalities don't know about each other, and the doctors think it best to keep it that way for time being. So ixnay on the tevesay is riskay.
PBoy is right, I've been hoping for some bigger trade where we finally cash in on our glut of "potential" and get a real NHL player in return. Although we are fast running out of cap space, we can still put together some serious prospect and "potential" nhl player deals.
ReplyDeleteyes i now we are still more then 1 player away, but I really hope Tambellini is kicking the tires at a few 3 for 1 deals in order to upgrade the team. The key is to either target teams who have further to go then us (hard to believe they exist, but they are there) and more importantly teams who have either cap or cash issues.
So teams I target:
Nashville (already proved it with the TO deal). Weber would have to be a huge payment, but he may be worth it.
Phoenix - owner issues means Yandle could be had for a good deal.
Buffalo - they have spent like drunken sailors, and may need to dump salary and take not much back to fill out roster.
Philly: I still think Carle or Coburn could be had. With Ward getting $3 million from Washington, Simmonds agent will start with that number and that effectively kills their cap.
Kris: I remember someone saying that you and SS were the same person or something of the sort. Maybe it was Woodguy.
ReplyDeleteThat I said that, or that I'm Kris and/or SS?
I agree with Zona that Sekera from BUF is a great target.
Can play top minutes and will probably come cheap.
Maybe I'm agreeing with Zona BECUASE I AM ZONA !?!?!
Probably not.
So Ryan Keller makes 50 contracts. There must be a trade about to break.
ReplyDelete@ DBO: Agree w/you re: Philly. With Ward being overpaid (imo) signing Simmonds would necessitate another move.
ReplyDeleteWeber is not going anywhere for Nashville. Moving Lombardi and Franson to Toronto, along w/a buyout of JP Dumont and letting Sullivan go means they keep the trio of Weber, Suter and Rinne.
In fairness, I can appreciate Lee's position - few have what it takes to agree with "Steve Smith".
ReplyDelete(Lord knows I'm not among them.)
