Edmonton Oilers signed AHL sniper Ryan Keller this afternoon. Ryan Rishaug has contract details and it resembles the "big AHL" deals given to Brad Moran and Alex Giroux a year ago.
The deal is also interesting in that the Edmonton Oilers are now (by my count) at the 50-man limit. Meaning if they want to sign Ryan Martindale or Brandon Davidson, or if they want to add another goaler, they will have to move contracts.
Johan Motin might be a candidate ala Josef Hrabal awhile back, and of course there's a lot of us who believe a center will be heading out of town in exchange for a goalie or defender.
We wait.
How does this team manage to be at the 50 contract limit?
ReplyDeleteYou hope something's about to break and for once maybe I'll even believe it;)
The only contracts in question are whether or not Rajala comes over this year, RNH makes the team, O'Marra or Chorney do sign a contract.
ReplyDeleteThat might buy them a little room, but like I said in another thread, the Oilers are prime for a 3 for 1 deal.
Omark I think is a marked man, at least.
ReplyDeleteHey Pisani,
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
According to cap geek Nugent-Hopkins' and Marincin's contracts "do not necessarily count toward the team's 50-man limit... (a team may appear over the 50-man limit when it is not) and can "slide" into next year:
ReplyDelete"If a player aged 18 or 19 signs an entry-level contract with a club (with his age calculated on Sept. 15 of the year he signed the contract) but does not play in at least 10 NHL games, the contract will "slide" or be extended one year. The extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between Sept. 16 and Dec. 31 in the year he signed the contract.
Depending on the contract's structure, the player's cap hit can be affected either by an increase or a decrease. Players who sign at age 18 can have their contract extended (or "slide") two seasons.
CBA reference: Section 9.1 (d) (P. 23-24)"
Looks like a bit of flexibility there...
Another ex-blade in the house.
ReplyDeleteHey Pisani,
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
LT, Did some one sign him or..?
Nah, he won the name the top 10 picks contest on Nation radio.
ReplyDeleteI actually went to high school with Pisani's cousin.
ReplyDeleteDeeg - not sure sliding a year is the same as not counting towards the 50 contracts. I would guess the opposite (without doing any reseach whatsoever at 12:57 am)
ReplyDeletecownsf: seriously, you don't want to know.
