The Edmonton Oilers have signed free agent winger Josh Green to a 1-year, two-way contract. Green played a dozen games for the Anaheim Ducks last season, scoring no goals or assists.
In the AHL, he went 69, 15-31-46 with Syracuse.
This is Green's second time around with the organization. He was part of the Roman Hamrlik return from Long Island (along with Eric Brewer and the pick that turned into Brad Winchester). Previous to that deal, he was sent by the LAK to NYI in a massive deal for Ziggy Palffy.
Green has played in the NHL for Los Angeles, New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Washington, Calgary, the Rangers again, Vancouver and Anaheim.
He's a big power winger with a plus shot, but has battled injuries over the years. He has played 334 NHL games, scoring 35-39-74.
Green would appear likely to play the entire season in OKC.
Flashback to the Coke Machine days of Winchester and Isbister. Should be a good depth signing, although this keeps making it tougher on Hartikainen.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was 'man, they shoot Jacques and bring back....Jacques!' lol.
ReplyDeleteGreen will likely the vet presence on a very young OKL team. Everyone is on a ELC except Green and Potter.
ReplyDeleteThats 48 contracts and still no goaler for the farm (other than Roy).
I think Leland Iriving has to clear waivers this year. Maybe they just pick him off.
Someone has to be leaving though.
Well at this point I think it's important to take not of the rfa's not signed.
ReplyDeleteDucey: I feel like a 2 for 1 or a 3 for 1 is coming soon. We're dealing with Dithers, so it hard to gauge any kind of read right now, but its set up for such a thing to happen.
ReplyDeleteWho's next? Isbister? Winchester?
ReplyDeleteGotta make up for Jacques and McDonald going away, I guess.
When I saw the name pop up on twitter I went, "Josh Green is back?!" Then assured myself there must be another, younger Josh Green out there. Only to see it actually is the old Josh Green. Didn't Toonces say something about the fanbase being "surprised" by some of the names management would be going after in FA?
ReplyDeleteColour me surprised. This guy was in the last pack of hockey cards I ever bought.
Well that's depressing. Don Awrey was in the last pack of hockey cards I ever bought.
ReplyDeletePreds sign Bergfors for almost league minimum.
ReplyDeleteWhen did all the teams become repulsive of young blue chippers?
Bikini has the Oilers and Ducks talking-again.
ReplyDeleteCogs to the Ducks for a 2012 2nd is about all I can figure.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Traktor from previous threads... Gagner is done here, and the writing is on the wall.
UNLESS he moves to RW. But if that's the plan, than it really should be Hemsky out the door... unless it's Omark, I guess.
Who's bikini?
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd share some info I just found on the blog "Swedish Oil". Klefbom's name is pronounced:
ReplyDeleteKlefbom (pronounced “KLae-bom” - with a slightly longer “o” and a silent f). I didn't get to watch the draft, is this how 3.1 said it?
It is indeed pronounced along the lines of Klay-bohm. Tambellini did indeed say Klef-bom. Then again so did Pierre MacGuire and everyone else on the TSN broadcast.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it might have took a bit out of it to hear your pronounced incorrectly on your draft day when you go in the first round, but if it did Klefbom didn't seem to show it.
Re: Bikini (@TreenasOil on twitter, max)
ReplyDeleteThis one feels like a common sense rumour. ANA needs help at forward & have defensive depth. EDM has a bit of a logjam up front & needs D. An easy connection to make, but it's Sunday afternoon & I'm bored at work...
Cogliano, Chorney & pick(s) for Lydman?
Cogs really steps into the Marchant 2.0 role. Chorney gives them a young puck mover with NHL experience. Oilers get a veteran, Top 4, big minute Dman who comes off the books when the kids are due their raises.
Too sweet for the Oil, methinks. Which could mean Gagner going instead of Cogs. But I imagine if that was the case, the Org would be asking for Etem or DSP with Lydman. Both non-starters for the Ducks IMO.
So, short version: unless we're swapping farmhands or dumping Cogs like PDO sez, nothing comes of these "talks."
Forgot a name in the above post, oh well.
ReplyDeleteHere's the draft clip for Klefbom:
Oskar Klefbom NHL Draft
Here's an excellent posting by CnB poster Lisa McRitchie with an embedded Swedish video where you can hear his name pronounced. Parts are translated in the article if you're interested.
Oscar Klefbom of Färjestad FBK
Wonder if Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is going to be the Oiler's puckboy in the pre-season?
It seems it's not of common act for english broadcasters to ask players how their names are pronounced.
ReplyDeleteVokoun gets called Vokooon while it's something like Vokawn.
Same thing for Dah-vo-Rak and Vor-jak.
After a long winter it always takes me a couple of games to get used to seeing "Getzlaf" on a football jersey.
ReplyDeleteYeah, although the green and gold look better than I thought they would and should win this game after that massive first half (well most of it).
ReplyDeleteOn the other channel, Tim Wallach is a third base coach! Man. Will he ever manage?
Wow, that was a helluva stat Ms. Orlesky...
ReplyDeleteRiders' merchandise outsells every Canadian team other than the Leafs and the Habs.
If you were married to a Rider fan it would come as no surprise. Riders look good tonight. I don't quite trust it, SK isn't the team they were a year ago.
ReplyDeleteBut the power in the west may be heading north.
This is not the Saskie D-Fence I remember.
ReplyDeleteI meant "Eskimos look good tonight." Great, even my keyboard is a Rider fan. :-(
ReplyDeleteEli Wallach at third....that's his home LT (he'll only leave 3rd if Runnells is running the team)
ReplyDeleteThis guy was ok at the dot as I remember.
ReplyDeleteAre the Eskies back? Nice win. I hope there's a lot more of that to come.
ReplyDeleteGiroux signed with Columbus, per Tencer. Oklahoma might be hurting a bit this year.
huh Havlat for Heatley?
ReplyDeleteWhoa - I thought the Esks win was out of left field, but Heatley for Havlat? That's....insane.
ReplyDeleteSharks and Wild hook up on a blockbuster for the second time in 10 days.
My injury Richie Allen for your Richie Allen.
ReplyDeleteSilence LT you province traitor. I don't know how your wife hasn't smothered you in your sleep. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyways. Awesome on the Sharks dumping the Heater. Hope he likes the hockey hinterland.
Ha...Heatley must be thrilled!!!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Heatley have NTC, I can't remember why I think that he does...
ReplyDeleteGreat trade by Wilson.
ReplyDeleteFrees up 2.5MM in cap space and gets rid of an overpaid 5v4 guy.
Heatly stats last year
5v5
PTS/60 1.55 8/12
CorQC 6/12
CorQT 4/12
Playing softer minutes, a $7.5MM guys has to be better than 8th on among forwards in pts/60
Ben Eager was 1.36 pts/60 5v5 for crying in the sink!!
Havlat led Min 5v5 with 2.41 pts/60.
He was playing softs with 10/12 Cor QC and 6/10 QT
Heatley was 2nd on SJS 5v4 pts/60 with 6.61 on PP1
Havlat was 5th on MIN with 3.69.
With Burnette gone MIN needed to get a PP shooter.
Not a bad move for MIN, but I really like it for SJS.
I'm okay with the Heatley freezing his buns off in Minny.
ReplyDeleteI'm a lot more pissed off that the 2 RH D I identified as good targets weeks ago for trade offers have both since been traded, and not to our sorry asses.
Lol, no leaving the rink in flip flops for Heater this year.
ReplyDeleteSo Heatley traded to Minnesota, land of the ice and snow.
ReplyDeleteThat's two bombs we've dodged thanks to other players hating Edmonton. Lowe tried his hardest, but he couldn't sink this team.
Michael Nylander is the most obvious case, stuck in the minors now. Then there's Heatley, who likely would have simply forced us into Calgary's traditional role (9th place - no dance, no lottery pick), and who has quickly worn out his welcome in SJ despite playing with the best playmaking centre in the league.
Another thanks to Buffalo, which matched Lowe's retarded offer to Vanek, and saved us a tonne of money and two first overall picks.
Doesn't Heatley have NTC, I can't remember why I think that he does...
ReplyDeletePretty sure those don't follow you to your new team - he waived it to go to San Jose and hasn't had once since.
SJ's color guy said during the playoffs that Heatley's foot speed was gone and his conditioning was poor. And they trying to win the Stanley! Richie Allen meets hockey.

Heatley has a modified no-trade. Had to submit a list of 10 teams he wouldn't go to before July 1. obviously Minny wasn't on that list.
D'oh, the Heatley trade attempt was a Tambo move.
ReplyDeleteI already made this joke on twitter... but that list definitely just said "Oilers" 10 times.
ReplyDeleteReally, Minnesota? Really?
ReplyDeleteLT what do you think the oilers would have to give up to get Holtby from Wash? Would a 2nd round pick be enough...would Cogs have any value to them?
ReplyDeleteAnother thanks to Buffalo, which matched Lowe's retarded offer to Vanek, and saved us a tonne of money and FOUR first round picks.
ReplyDeleteFixed it for ya Wojo ;).
Two things I remember about this guy:
ReplyDelete1. Speeds liked him a lot more than anyone else did
2. he scored two goals in Minny on the last day of the season in '02.
Good AHL signing though considering the fellows we've lost down there and that maybe Giroux's next out the door.
We've got Lander, Hamilton, Pitlick etc all ready to go but of course we need some vets in OKV as well.
So, Oilers' website saying Teddy Peckham signed to a 1 year deal today, but no details. Anyone heard the $$$?
ReplyDelete"quitism" - hopefully Smytty will put an end to that.
