Nurse Ratched hasn't decided on the punishment; it could be a harsh glance or something from the medicine cabinet. Either way, it'll arrive in due time.

Helene Elliott tweets today in regard tot he LAK-EDM deal that sent Ryan Smyth to the Oilers and possibly Colin Fraser the other way. The latest tweet:
- Elliott: am told Oilers submitted their position in grievance filed by Kings over Fraser injury. no hearing skedded yet. Bettman can rule w/o hearing
I love the wording. The NHL's ruling process is absolutely crazy. No clues about time line, no real idea about range of punishment and really no closure for anyone--most especially Colin Fraser.
I wonder if the powers that be were sent "upstairs" years ago.
I wonder if the powers that be were sent "upstairs" years ago.

What is interesting to me is that the Oilers have on left wing - T.H., M.P., R.S., B.E., D.H. with T.H. and others hopiing to get in. What do the Oilers do with Ryan at the trading deadline or at the end of the year???
ReplyDeleteSo if Fraser is dangling in the wind so to speak... where does that leave Smitty?
ReplyDeleteBettman needs to slap the two dueling idiots on the hand and be done with it.
This should have been a non-issue and been dealt with long ago.
Lombardi already said he does not want Smyth back. He seemed to be holding out for a 6th rounder to be thrown in.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing is kind of like complaining about your neighbours fence in the hope it will get moved 6 inches.
Ducey: i think it's out of Lombardi's hands, ST's too. Bettman can make any decision and it is binding.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, there's no input from teams in regard to solution once it gets this far.
I hope he rules that they must fight it out in a large kiddie pool of spaghetti (with sauce) at centre ice while wearing NHL superhero costumes (what ever happened to those superheroes anyway?).
ReplyDeleteBettman Solution #1 (Twilight Zone Gary):
ReplyDeleteHe voids the trade entirely, then trades every player in on the Kings and in the Kings system for every player on the Oilers and eery players in the Oilers system.
That way Smyth wasn't traded, and he still gets to play in Edmonton and the Oilers are in position to make it deep in the playoffs only to lose and be forced to give up their Norris-caliber Defenseman when he demands a trade out of the city and away from the organization, while at the same time giving up all the pieces that may one day have been the boys on the bus v 2.0 without having won a single Stanley.
Bettman solution # 2(Vindictive Gary):
The Smyth trade happens, but both teams forfeit their first round picks in the upcoming draft, out of spite for being forced to make a decision on his own and not just work in the best interests of the owners.
Bettman is burned in effigy in both cities and although this could be something that is used to bring both the fans and the organizations together in hatred of Bettman, instead Burke offersheets doughty and Toonces needs more time to evaluate the decision and is unavailble for comment on it until May.
Bettman Solution #3 (Scooby Doo Gary):
After consulting with other GMs around the NHL, Bettman announces a few minor trades to even things out:
To Tampa Bay:
Stanley Cup Winning G Nikolai Khabbibulin, Taylor Chorney, and the Oilers 2nd round Pick.
To Carolina:
Khabbibulin's Contract, Ethan Moreau, and the bill for Vancouver's Riots.
To Los Angeles:
An additional 5th round pick (Oilers) in compensation for the error in the Ryan Smyth deal, and a visit from Derek Boogards "ghost" that sees Dean Lombardi decide that it's time to retire.
To Edmonton:
Retroactive awarding of the Stanley Cup in 2006 after it was determined that M.A. Bergeron was bribed by the Caroline Hurricanes to take out Roloson.
Also, G Dwayne Roloson, D M.A. Bergeron, and D Drew Doughty.
The Fair Trade Act in Alberta has severe penalties for misrepresenting the conditions of a sale or trade.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Lombardi is aware of it?
Ya, Lombardi should be careful, cause if we check the mileage on the odometer of the veteran winger. If it has more than a 100,000 K or the odometer has been tampered with, he's in deep doo doo !
ReplyDeleteevallyte ... Tambo v1.0 would evallyte and evallyte ...
Shut up, DSF.

ReplyDeleteBettman Solution #4 (Prick Gary):
ReplyDeleteThe Kings finally sign Doughty to a large contract the day the regular season opens. Mere hours later, Bettman announces his ruling, overturning the trade, sending Smyth back to LA and putting the Kings over the salary cap. Bettman then finds the Kings in violation of the cap and fines them as well as taking away a draft pick.
Time flies. I'm amazed it's been 73, well, 74 days now. I'm guessing If there ever is a settlement that we won't hear about it, at least not from the Oilers' end.
ReplyDeleteIt is assumed Smyth is here, but I have wondered what happens if Bettman just nullifies the trade? Perhaps a bit of mayhem on the "Al Gore" (for you LT) from old Edmonton?
ReplyDeletei don't understand why Lombardi is playing with fire over a *6th round pick*.
ReplyDeleteBettman could revoke the trade and then Lombardi would be in deep doo doo.
i don't understand it at all. it can only be ego, right?
