It has become a tradition for this blog to single out an SEL player and follow his season via boxcars. I post a photo on the RH side and update the stats (with help sometimes from posters when I fall behind) as needed.
We've enjoyed two quality seasons following Magnus Paajarvi and Anton Lander.
From what I can tell, young Oscar Klefbom's SEL pre-season is underway (or at least he has played in a tournament for his SEL team). Elite prospects has him 4gp, 0-1-1 but I've counted 5 games he's appeared in if I'm reading things correctly.
So, question for the group: is Klefbom the man to follow in 11-12? Regular SEL season begins September 13th but I could post the photo and follow the pre-season stats. Kind of an Al Gore version of the first leaves falling. What say you?

All for it lowetide. Great site by the way. I have been reading your work on Oilersnation for a while now and have since included your own personal blog as a daily must read. Keep up the good work and the great blogs.
ReplyDeleteWell, off he top of my head, the only other option would be the goaler perhonen. His stats might be more relevant as defenseman won't post many numbers.
ReplyDeleteI guess thats less work for you then :)
Concur with itsaleaf...while I do believe Klefbom is a great prospect to follow, the boxcars for a prospect like him might not be a worthwhile measure.
ReplyDeleteTry and find a Swedish fan following his team on a nighly basis...get that guy to post (in English!) updates on his play re: "Is he breaking up cycles", "does he have a good active stick", "Is his first pass out of the zone such that the play moves up ice", etc...etc..
I kid, I kid!!!
I think this is a great idea, LT. I am not convinced that he was a good selection since his boxcars were terrible (granted playing against men) & he did not know who number 11 was for the Oilers.
ReplyDeleteI would be very interested to see what you round up and make a more informed (and less emotional) evaluation on this young man.

ReplyDelete"Does he lay Thunderous Body Checks?"
Too bad these defence prospects constantly bust.
ReplyDeleteDoes he have a "cannonading drive"?
ReplyDeleteunless you're able to at least track his plus/minus, then no - i'd rather track Samu Perhonen.
ReplyDeletebut if you've got klefbom's plus/minus then sure, go for it.
Absolutely LT, this is the guy to follow. The boxcars are what they are and will be what they will be. The point of the exercise is not to provide a stats package but to put a little reminder that more help is in the pipeline and on its way from the land of assemble-yourself furniture.
ReplyDeleteKlefbom is that guy.
Besides, when his boxcars look awful his World Juniors performance will have everyone scratching their head - more fun for everyone.
"Does he lay Thunderous Body Checks?"
ReplyDeleteCan you describe the amount of fire in his eyes?
Maybe Swedish Oil (dohfs) can help keep track. His 2 favourite teams are Oilers and Farjestad.
ReplyDeleteMost importantly does he have strong muscular thighs and does he bring veteran leadership?
ReplyDeleteand most important does Klefbom have a beautiful Swedish sister that LT can post on his blog regularly ?

ReplyDeleteI am all for following Oscar....
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a great prospect to follow in the same way as PRV and Lander. I'm very curious to see how well this guy plays in the next year or 2. It'll be interesting following a dman instead of a forward this year.
ReplyDelete@Black Dog: Take it easy, training camp's nearly here.
ReplyDeleteTook a look at some Swedish and Finnish sites to see what is happening. Färjestad has played six exhibition games.
ReplyDeleteThe first game was August 6th, a 2-1 shootout win against Allsvenskan team Leksand. There are no stats available that I can find other than the goal scorers, so no idea if Klefbom played or not. FBK has since played five games in the "European Trophy" tournament and stats are a bit lacking from it.
Lost to Salzberg 4-0 on August 11th; Klefbom is shown as playing in the 2nd D-pair.
Beat Eisbären Berlin in OT 4-3 on August 13th; 2nd D-pair and had an assist on FBK's first goal in the first period that tied the game at 1-1.
Lost to TPS Turku 2-1 in OT on August 18th; 2nd D-pair.
Beat Tappara Tampere 4-2 on August 20th; 2nd D-pair.
Lost to Kärpät Oulu 2-1 in a shootout on August 21st; did not dress. FBK dressed two under the limit.
Next game is August 27th against Luleå.
...and most important does Klefbom have a beautiful Swedish sister that LT can post on his blog regularly ?...
ReplyDelete...the only problem Regwald is this would take "icetime" away from Jill Henessay, Diane Lane, MaryTyler Moore, oops I mean that girl from Oklahoma with the umm shirt.....
Strong muscular thighs, Hunter, strong muscular thighs.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea LT. My only concern would be the panic that might follow among infrequent visitors who show up and riot when his boxcars don't reflect his true value.
ReplyDelete7GP, 0-2-2 -1 might lead to much wailing from a hockey hypochondriac.
Doesn't the SEL track time-on-ice and eye glow intensity? Will be good to see how he develops/how he'll be used as the season wears on. Maybe 20/20/20/20 splits.
ReplyDeleteMore important to the org. than the goalie, too. I vote Klefbom.
The SEL has a hind banana, pubis and Barbara Ann Scott stat but no eyeglow.
ReplyDeleteCould you find a picture of Perhonen and Klefborn cold chillin' at a club and/or playing hockey and track them both....
ReplyDeleteor just Klefborn
