ISS #122; Redline 74
Redline: Stay at home defencemen with savvy and size. Son of former longtime NHL'er Craig Simpson has very good hockey sense and understands game situations instinctively. Had trouble getting qualilty icetime as a 17-year-old true freshman on deep, veteran defence corps of top collegiate program, but did show steady progress adjusting to the pace of play against older, stronger opponents. Rarely saw the ice on either special teams units. Sluggish skater with a short stride, but shows good gap control and lateral mobility. Tentative to do anything offensively and always has one foot back on defence. Doesn't see the ice well and hurries to get the puck off his stick. Makes sharp defensive reads and is rarely out of position. Struggled 1-on-1 in the corners and down log against more physically developed forwards.
Underrated.
ReplyDeleteCame on late. Some offensive upside. This years Blaine.
Hmm...Hockey news counters on his skating abilities.
ReplyDeleteCraig Simpson's kid has great hockey sense; skating needs work
wow....love that they're drafting a ton of dmen figuring that 1 of these guys has to pan out! power in numbers!!
ReplyDeleteherstis - when you can't stop thinking about her sister
Would have preferred Zach Yuen if the Oilers had wanted another Dman.
ReplyDeleteDillon Simpson is going to have to bring some offense if he wants to stick around. Prolly a good thing he is going the NCAA route.
Lowe: "Keegan told us he preffered to not go to the Oilers"
ReplyDeleteLowe: "Keegan told us he preffered to not go to the Oilers"
ReplyDeleteThat was wise.
Lowe: "Keegan told us he preferred to not go to the Oilers"
ReplyDeleteSource please?
On the NHL Network broadcast.
ReplyDeleteRangers take St.Croix.
ReplyDeleteThe Lowe's were on NHL Live doing an interview moments ago. Kevin said the Oilers scouts really liked him and there were discussions, but that was what Keegan preferred.
ReplyDeleteSource was Vish himself.
ReplyDeleteSo that means Keegan actually pays attention to the team, then.
ReplyDeleteShould have taken St. Croix. 75 points in 68 games.
ReplyDeleteJust taken by Rangers.
I guess it would be a good time to take a flyer on Kale Kessy.
ReplyDeleteIs the supposed 4th round pick that's part of the Smyth deal for next years draft? Oilers second 4th rounder is coming up quick! Ack!
ReplyDeleteProbably doesn't want to go to a team that would ask you to return salary after they trade you. Or maybe wasn't keen on playing for a team that denigrates other team's prospects (Bobby Ryan) or expects you to play when you're injured. Or maybe he just wants to play for a winner?
ReplyDelete...or doesn't want to have to fight all the guys in the room if they're talking shit about his dad...
ReplyDeleteSo much for Kessy, he just went to Phx.
ReplyDeleteWhere's steve Tambellini? Damn. That's some good radio.
ReplyDeleteSo what the hell does this mean? Arg!
Oilers take Tobias Rieder.
ReplyDeleteThe Oilers aren't sending a 4th round pick to the Kings.
ReplyDeleteOilers take Tobias Fünke instead of dealing that pick to LA (?).
ReplyDeleteAs per Kirk Luedeke of Bruins Draftwatch
ReplyDeleteGerman winger Tobias Rieder is the second of Kitchener's sublime import duo, and may well be the best player to ever come out of that country when all is said and done. The speedy and ultra-skilled forward showed no transition struggles and has been a crucial element in keeping Kitchener's high-octane offense going, especially with the loss of 50-goal man Jeff Skinner to the Carolina Hurricanes. We're not saying Rieder is the next Skinner (he's got similar size and can really fly; doesn't have quite the sublime hands/hockey sense though), but he's one heck of a scoring talent, and hockey is in his blood. This is a kid who is absolutely driven to be in the NHL one day, and based on early returns, he's going to get there.
Oilers take Martin Gernat. I have nothing on this guy.
ReplyDeleteGood pick. Every bit as good or better than KLowe jr imo. Anddd....somebody called it...ahem.
