Story is here. Counter story is here. During the Team 1260's broadcast from Palace Casino tonight, I suggested the Smyth trade (as described at the time) was easily the best in Steve Tambellini's time as General Manager.
The hold up seems to be misunderstanding over the terms of the conditional pick. The good thing about this is that NHL registry will have two signatures and will clearly spell out the conditions of the deal.
Right? RIGHT?
Life is good.
ReplyDeleteWho do you like at 31 LT?
ReplyDeleteRegehr waives his NTC to go to BUF.
ReplyDeletePegula called Regehr himself.
As per Regehr's agent JP Barry via LeBrun
Tambellini denies 94 trade done again 5 min ago.
How many times did Judas deny his buddy?
FFS.
Rask, Musil, Rattie, Khochlachev. Probably Musil.
ReplyDeleteI think I have to be in the Boone Jenner Camp if we are talking BPA, well excluding Grimaldi but he's more risk/reward, I like how safe Jenner is.
ReplyDeleteand whats the holdup with the Smyth deal on Tambo's End....
Man, it was Peter who denied Jesus.
ReplyDeleteWas just thinking Judas = v3.0
So... We were happy with a 3rd going the other way, now it's a 5th and a dump on top of that.
ReplyDeleteI guess Toonces dialed up his best Peter Falk today,
McKenzie just tweeted the hold up on the Smyth deal is a mis-understanding about the conditional draft pick.
ReplyDeleteIf v3.0 screws this up the majority of the fans will try to run him out of town.
I hate the number of smurfs on our roster but would take a flier on Grimaldi. BPA. Dude has very high skill set
ReplyDeleteAs long as Tambellini sorts this out before training camp,I'm OK with it.
ReplyDeleteAt worst... you ship off Grimaldi for something that adresses our need.
ReplyDeleteGive the anti-Tambi crap a rest. Today was RNH's day. Tomorrow it will be Smyth's day. Looked like a good draft day for the Oil to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat about possibly taking Saad? I know we have a lot of wingers, but he adds a physical element we don't have a lot of, and could be a monumental steal if things go the right way.
ReplyDeleteto the Grimaldi camp:
ReplyDeleteIt's not in our draft tendencies since SMB took over to draft kids heading to college.
We just don't do it anymore.
Musil is an interesting case LT. He was pegged as Top-10 going into the year but had a McFarland-esque slide. Rask too. They're well worth a shot based on initial talent and I'd be happy with Musil if that's the case.
I really don't like the scouting report on Mayfield. We have Teubert and Plante to fill his job already.
I hope the Reghr signing hasn't brought Calgary back into the fold.

What the condition on the fourth round draft pick? That the Oilers also have to take Dustin Penner back?
signing = *trade*
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm stuck at work tomorrow and won't be able to keep up on the Day 2 proceedings. Pat, Tyler or Dennis, would one of you be kind enough to tweet our selections if you're watching?
ReplyDeleteMany thanks.

Musil is going to be a steal.
Not only was his draft position affected by injury, but Don Hay employed him as a shutdown D.

My preferences in order:
ReplyDeleteGrimaldi
Rattie
Jenner
Musil
Bob McKenzie

When, or if, deal is done, hearing Paul Byron, Chris Butler and 2nd is what BUF will send to CGY for Regher/Kotalik. Not yet official #tsn

Jay Feaster commences the rebuild of Calgary. Nice move.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the condition is? It only has until about noon to vest unless the pick is for 2012. Weird.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Lombardi needs Bono's autograph.
Boone is the man. Unlike almost all of the other options, he has a high work ethic and an adaptable game.
I'd be okay with Musil too.
Grimaldi is too small for this team.
The only downside of the draft? Pierre McGuire. Brutal.
Truthfully, Rattie should be a high consideration at 31.

You have to think he clearing cap space for Brad Richards.
DSF: Doubt it. Still has a lot to sign.
ReplyDeleteEven then don't think Richards will be baited into it.
If he'd do, I think he'd move Cory Sarich's awful thing they call a contract.
Initially my feeling was that if the Smyth trade didn't go through I would fall further into the "these guys are idiots" camp but not much would change in the world.
ReplyDeleteHowever; mr. dithers has caused such a commotion about the whole affair he really has outdone himself. Now if the trade doesn't go through everyone has to recognize what a fing idiot he is. I would be willing to bet a 24 pack we have a new GM before the next draft.
This is like Sarah Palin stupid

With Regher off the cap, he has $11M to sign Richards, Tanguay and some spare parts.
It's doable.
DSF: Well If I had the choice between rocking the big apple, on an up and coming club, and freezing my balls in Calgary, for a down and crashing club, I'd pick NY.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's a way Richards goes there.
Wow. RNH. Done deal.
ReplyDeleteAnd what sounds like a promising stud defender as #19.
Pretty happy.
I'd love to see the Smyth trade official tonight, but I'm feeling pretty confident at this point.
How many Oilers fans are happy drunks right now?
Good shit.
I'll suggest Brett Ritchie [nod to
ReplyDeleteRickibear] or Boone Jenner with the 31st.
I would've been very pleased with Matt Puempel at 19.
As for later tomorrow, I'll just note that I had Marcel Noebels on my list last year.
I was nervous about this trade because I thought the price would be too high. It wasn't. Well done, Tambo.
ReplyDeleteWhat time does the draft start tomorrow?
ReplyDeletespeeds - 9.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it will be available on nhl.com like last year.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/columnist/woodlief/2011-06-16-red-line-report-nhl-draft-defensemen_n.htm
ReplyDeletethis report has Klefbom ranked 4th highest dman in this draft after Larsson, Hamilton and Murphy. Ahead of Siemens, Beaulieau and Oleksiak.
Glad we didn't trade up to get Siemens. Glad we didn't take him period, actually.
Really wish we got McNeill, but Klefbom seems interesting.
Yeah, tomorrow's proceedings are on NHL Network starting at 9 a.m. MDT. It will be a MUCH brisker pace than today. (I hope - I go to work at 1 p.m.)
ReplyDeleteI am pretty pissed up right now. And I sold my house and have just tomorrow to pack. God I hope I am not to hung over tomorrow drinking water like a fish right now to help ease the pain tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible Tambo is just letting RHN have his moment without Smyth stealing his headlines. And that the Smyth trade will be rubber-stamped over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteIf so, thats good calm GM'ing.
Musil or Rattie at 31, would be perfect.
I think there is a real chance that they trade down to pick up another second round pick. St Louis, Florida, Chicago, Detroit, NYI, Calgary, Nashville, Anahiem and Phoenix all have multiple picks in the second round and Stu may figure that he can get two guys he likes as much or almost as much as the guy they could take with 31. Given the way he knocked the cover off the ball in the second round last year, if the man wants bullets then you give him some bullets.
ReplyDeleteIf they keep the pick the I think it's Jenner. Stu doesn't seem to like guys that have 'lack of compete' or 'needs to improve hockey sense' in their scouting report - Martindale is the only exception that I can think of - and seems to love guys with leadership skills.
I don't follow the prospects much, but reading the TSN profiles I would like to see Boone Jenner picked at 31. His maturity and work ethic along with size go along way, IMO.
ReplyDeleteAlmost puked yesterday when I read that Smyth was almost a "done deal" to the Flames.... happy as a pig now that he is basically an Oiler again. Makes this season even more enjoyable and the wait till Sept even harder.
God... I can't wait for Friday.... seriously my favorite day of teh year. I just wish it wasn't on Canada Day... always torn between coverage of free agency and family celebrations.
What probably happened is that the two teams submitted different versions of the trade. This is the moment Tambi needs to back down. Lombardi has gotten screwed on this and there is no need to push him further on this one.
ReplyDeleteWhy, bookie? It isn't Tambo's job to make GMing easy for other people.
ReplyDeleteAs an Oilers fan, I've had enough of being on the losing end of a hardball negotiation. Believe it or not, it seems like the Tamborine Man has realized that he's coming from a position of strength, and has went from what we thought would be a 3rd rounder to a conditional pick AND a salary dump.
If FeasteF FDeal stalled due to Brule's health.
ReplyDeleteSpeeds tweeted that LA will probably buy out Brule, and you cannot buy out an injuried player.
MacKenzie says deal is Brule and a 5th.
With Brule delay, CAL is involved again.
I really can't see why Feaster would want 94 since it looks like Lombardi doesn't want much Salary back. He'll probably be an Oiler.
If Feaster does grab 94, then it looks like CAL's new boss is same as the old boss.
Yahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
If FeasteF FDeal stalled due to Brule's health.
ReplyDeleteFor real? Wow, I guess that confirms that he has some real health issues. That's too bad.
WG: and the cock crowed three times!!
ReplyDeleteNote: I just wanted to say cock!
