Tonight marks the return of Ethan rifles. Unless he's hurt himself again, Oiler fans will be able to see "2 minutes for being foolish 90 feet from his net" Moreau. I shouldn't be mean about it, Ethan served this team well for many years before losing a step and being forced to use his stick to stop the train.
He's in the "finished up his career by going 28gp, 1-4-5 -7 with Columbus" phase of a long and solid NHL career. He played during a time when the Oilers were outmanned pretty much every night.
So much has changed.
--
The Jackets have some nice veterans (Nash, Umberger, Vermette, newly acquired Upshall) up front and a plethora of quality youth (Voracek, Brassard, young wunderkind Matt Calvert). Their blue features a nice array of talent, including Fedor Tyutin, Marc Methot, Kris Russell and Jan Hejda. It's not exactly the 77 Habs but they do get the job done. Goaltending has been the issue this season. I don't know that they're going to be a playoff team this year, but they're a good hockey club. I wonder if they considered dealing for Vokoun at the deadline.
--
The Oilers are in real danger of passing Ottawa in the standings. It's important because the 30th place team gets a better chance of winning the lottery and this year picking first will be important again. Some say it doesn't matter because Ottawa won't choose D Adam Larsson, but Bryan Murray is a pretty sharp cookie when it comes to procurement. If the Sens believe Larsson is the BPA don't be surprised if he's taken. I remain convinced Couturier is the guy, but Landeskog is 13gp, 8-9-17 +9 since returning from injury. Folks, he might be the BPA.
--
Winnipeg is in the news again. Bob McKenzie suggests the NHL has some issues in the south and that the Jets could be back as soon as next season. Maybe they'll trade for Khabibulin.
--
With the Oilers once again moving back the competition clock, we have to assume anyone over 20 is in play. What does that mean? If the recently acquired Kings pick ends up between 17 and 20 (hat tip to "Steve Smith" for supplying the math) the Oilers may attempt to trade up for a Dougie Hamilton. What would that cost? Maybe the pick and Sam Gagner, possibly a bigger deal involving Hemsky.
Everyone but Hall, Eberle and possibly Pääjärvi are likely in play.

I pounded that line as well as CBJ -.5 +110
I applied for a home line of credit and will be putting that on the line as well.

Prediction: the Jets will finish ahead of us next year even if they don't have a team.
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when Ethan was what we wanted every Oiler to be. Unfortunately he acquired the C as his game entered an elevator shaft.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for 2 things
1) Oilers draft BPA
2) That player is Adam Larsson
And yes Oilers need to start losing a bit here. I have tickets and I did against St Louis on Friday so I'm not expecting much.
Thanks for the standings WG. If any of you have watched Ottawa recently you'd feel a bit better about the position the Oilers are in (about the same level of NHL level talent, but they're lacking the same degree of hope-inspiring youth).
ReplyDeleteAt this point, it would seem to make the most sense to just stick DD in net for a while and see how he handles a 4-5 game set. Even if he somehow manages to replicate Gerber's surprising success and put together a little run, this goes towards his future development rather than simply meaningless wins in a lottery season.
@ The O
ReplyDeleteThe Jets already are ahead of us in the standings!
rustiong
woodguy: yep, Bulin back should secure the top pick. Renney called him a #1 goalie in this league in the journal again. Man that hurts.
ReplyDeleteLT: would they be so dumb as to make an RFA sheet to Weber. Don't get me wrong, he would be stellar, but are you kidding me. Why deal Penner then trade for a dman who will cost more then $6 mill and cost us 4 1st rd picks. That would signal the end of the rebuild, so the penner deal makes no sense.
I actually hope we go team sweden in the off season and draft.
- draft Larsson
- bring over Lander
- try to sign Jonathan Ericsson from Detroit to play in our top 4. 27 yr old solid two way dman with size. If Detroit resigns Lidstrom, they may not be able to afford Ericsson. He hasn't played the tough minutes with them, but he has potential and would be a top 4 guy for us right away.
I think if Ottawa drafted 1st overall and passed on Larsson that would be a huge tell. Larsson's coach used to scout for Ottawa and if they don't think he has much upside, well, we might be smart to heed that warning sign.
ReplyDeleteI think it comes down to Larsson or Couturier, personally. Landeskog is putting up great numbers, but on the other hand he's on an absolute powerhouse and scouts are asking if he has that high level of offensive talent. It's a genuine shame we didn't get to see him at the WJC. Tournament of small sample sizes or not, it would have been nice to see him play in a different setting.
I might get a chance to go to the game tonight. The seats are close to the benches, so I'll try to see if there's any chatter between theformercaptainethanmoreau and any Oilers.
Man, we should have called Penner "thebigmandustinpenner" when we had the chance.
esteri - a collection of hockey metrics used and understood only by a small subsample of the population.
I agree w/Cactus re: OTT. Having Anderson in nets stabilizes that team. Plus they play in the east.
ReplyDeleteThat should be good enough to keep them ahead of us, especially if Hemsky is out for any length of time.
Only question left for this group is are the capable of playing ELPH? Last three games have been anything but.
Hockpuye.
Oilerdago
Hawks making a nice run, Toews has been lights out. That poor start is going to cost them the division though.
ReplyDeleteAs usual that 4/5 matchup in the west is going to be a bastard. A good club is going out first round.
Interesting draft. Everyone says its weak but I would bet that in a few years we'll look back and say that it was typical. A few of these top kids are going to be great.
Someone last night on the TV said Landeskog might not have that offensive upside but he was a combination of Sundin and Shanahan. Um, come again?
I bet we pass Ottawa. I think they take Landeskog and then we take Larsson. If we finish first I would bet on Larsson being the pick but I don't know a damn thing.
Enjoyed the podcast LT. So back in the old days would you have described yourself as Johnny Fever or Venus Flytrap? I was thinking Fever but the more I think about it you have that Flytrap vibe going on.
BTW what did everyone think about the deal on Monday? :P
Finally we're all on board with the tank.
ReplyDeleteIt's all I've thought about this season, hoping of course that the eunuchs at Rexall would...ah what the heck.
I reckon OIlers finish in 29th, and fear they end up in 25th and out of the reckoning for one of the big four.
I also find myself cheering for the Leafs/Islanders/Devils/ for some strange reason this year, and as of Monday have added the Flames(henceforth called the Antikings) lol.
I think the recent comments about the timeline of this rebuild give us some indication of what options the Oilers are considering for the draft. Establishing a 4-5 year timeframe would allow the development of a D-man like Larsson, who could then contribute to the potential Cup run. However, if they were expecting to be in the thick of things in 2 years, having that big C would likely fill that gap faster.
ReplyDeleteDBO,
ReplyDeleteEither CBC or TheTEAM has Craig Simpson on during the deadline and he was asked if Khabby was a "go to" goalie.
Simmer: "Yeah, if you want to finish last"
HA!
Cactus,
I said after the Anderson/Elliott trade that the GM who was happiest with the deal was Tambellini
OTT is +155 at ATL
OTT is 4-5-1 in last 10
ATL is 2-6-2 in last 10
Not a slam dunk but there is real value there.
@ DBO
ReplyDeleteyou said it best. It will be really dumb of them to offer sheet Weber. If that was the plan, then there was ablsolutely no need to trade Penner! This is now a 4-6 year process.
Furthermore, ST doesnt look like a GM who would be agressive enough to offer sheet anyone.
frousected-(past tense, ad) highest degree of frustration, felt only when thinking of Oiler's management/short term futre
@ Black Dog
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. This draft may not have the top end latent like Hall/Seguin, but the rest of it is solid. I dont get this weak draft crap either. I think there is a decent chance that we get a good proepct with the LA pick as well. Some possibilited- Mcneill/Armia and from the looks of it Siemens may end up going around that time too.
coced: similar to coked...a level of high only achievable by a Oiler GM
Sometimes I think I'm a pessimist when it comes to the Oilers.
ReplyDeleteOther times, I look at the standings and think "Well, if LA misses the playoffs EDM might get a 13th or 14th OV pick, and there's about a 1% chance that pick could become a 9th or 10th OV pick via the lottery."
Maybe I'm an optimist after all?
I think that given the comments made by Renny in the past, he has no problems lying to the camera. I am fine with that. Everyone knows that Khabi is not a #1 anymore, but why trumpet that in the media. The Oilers are trying to lose and they are now using Khabi to do so. Again, nobody is going to say that in public. That is fine.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBookie, if anything, losing on the back of Khabby is an advantage. As a former top goalie it gives the impression that they're "trying hard" to the casual observer.
ReplyDeleteBulin is underrated.
ReplyDeleteThere is a comment in the Journal today about why they played Gerber. Renney said that DD had taken the 5-0 loss to STL hard and they wanted him to work on some things with Chaput and get him back on track.
People have been wondering why they have not played DD more. I have been saying for a while its because DD's confidence is fragile and they don't want him to get shelled night after night.
Accordingly, there is some value in Bulin. As a vet he is able to take the majority of the games in a tough season.
Agreed that on offer sheet for Weber would be insane. He is likely going to be up around $7 million a season. Whats that? 5 first rounders in compensation?
I've been watching the Ottawa games and Anderson has been great since joining the team (great trade by the Sens, btw). Their goaltending has been a huge problem so if they can get some scoring--they're averaging 2 and a 1/4 goals per game so it ain't pretty--they might pick up some points. That said, if the Oilers keep batting .500 I think the Oil will pass them.
ReplyDeleteThe good news, as Woodguy mentioned, is that this is a two-horse race. No way the Oilers catch the Isles or anyone ahead of them.
Bobby Mac said that he was pretty sure that O'mark botched that shoot out shot and got lucky.
ReplyDeleteI've watched that goal a bunch of times and it is the most beautiful goal I've seen in a while. It's too bad he overlooks it so easily.
When Omark begins to show some respect for the Code then the grand protectors of the gsme will begin to show some respect for him.
ReplyDeletebookie thingie
So can we expect a Don Cherry rant about Omark not respecting goaltenders this week?
ReplyDeleteAll of this has happened before and all of this will happen again.
Can't they just phone in sick for the rest of the season? That's what I would do.
ReplyDeletepredi - what hockey in Edmonton is not for the forseeable future
Pat: I hope LT doesn't get mad at me again:) but considering we're going WKRP I would say that the move of LT to ON means he's as much Rip Tide as he is Johnny Fever or Venus Flytrap;)
ReplyDeleteNote: please tell me someone else remembers that two-parter where Johnny hosted the disco show as Rip Tide!!
WG: I like your gambling-tinged viewpoints.
Mike: that 1% line was funny.
And, yeah, if we're on another 17 year rebuild then it makes sense to take Larsson - or at least as anything these bunch of stupes do can be viewed as sensible.
I predict that Tambo packages 89 plus LAK's first rounder and gets a player that's later leaked as being described in-house as a 3rd liner.
Then the apologists come on here and defend it again:)
then we flash forward to june 30th and everyone thinks the Oilers will plug the holes on July 1st.
then it's late dec and we're in 30th place again.
Meet the new boss, the puppet of the old boss:)
It's fan appreciation day! I hear they're giving out waterproof scarlett johansson posters and showerbeer to all ticket holders. Hoorah!
ReplyDeleteAs of right now, his TOI/G suggests that Larsson is a bottom 4 d man on his team(and possibly a bottom pairing). So it will be unfair to think that he will come in and play significant minutes next season. I think it will be for the best to let him stay in SEL another season and then think about bringing him up here.
ReplyDeleteglapper: Gilbert's slapper
The good news, as Woodguy mentioned, is that this is a two-horse race. No way the Oilers catch the Isles or anyone ahead of them.
ReplyDeleteI'm worried about FLA. They are due for a losing streak after trading most of their team. COL also has three games with the Oilers remaining. COL has not been playing well at all.
Can't they just phone in sick for the rest of the season? That's what I would do.
ReplyDeleteI think that's what Hemsky is doing...
He's not at practice. No word on how bad it is yet. Peckham still out, Gerber still sticking around. - Per Gene and Dan
Tencer Dan...
ReplyDeleteDubnyk starts tonight.
It would seem strange for Ottawa to take Larsson with Eriksson and Rundblad in the fold. Landeskog seems a likely target, for replacing Alfredsson.
ReplyDeleteI also wonder whether the Oilers would consider trading down in exchange for more bullets.
I'm no genoppro of course.
@ Brett Gee: I got the impression on that goal that Omark saw Rinne was too deep/too tall to ease the puck over top and found some space along the ice. Or he was aware that all Hockeydom had seen the move on youtube and recalculated the move. He seems to me like that kind of smartypants type.
ReplyDeleteditathic: I think I had that procedure done after the war.
Is this where one comes to complain about the Penner trade?
ReplyDeleteCraig Simpson was on with Chase and Cheezer of 1260 this morning.
I’m not sure what the actual show is called, it’s the morning show.
Anywho, He said the Oilers should be adding enough pieces so they can take a run at the play-offs next year.
Chase & Cheeser were dumfounded by the concept.
dotyll, Ditto well.
Interesting comments coming from Ottawa on what looked like a scorched earth philosphy but perhaps isn't going to be one afterall
ReplyDeleteThey won’t part with their early pick because, as Murray said this week, “We feel very strongly that we will draft one young player that should player on this team next year.”
After that, however, all the picks could be in play.
“We will probably try, without a question, to sign a top-six forward from the free-agent market or through a draft pick to make a trade,” Murray said, “to use one of those picks to get a player that maybe some other team can’t afford to keep, or whatever.”
I'm firmly in the Larsson camp. I thought there was no way that the Oil would be able to draft 1st overall again and grab him last off-season, but Tambellini is pulling it off by leaving glaring holes the size of [insert something of considerable size here to complete the metphor] in the sides of this sinking team.
ReplyDeleteI think Larsson is every bit the calibre of prospect that Hall is, except on D. Hopefully since he's been shut down since the WJC his nagging injury issues this season will be fixed up and he'll be good to go again next season.
Hall, Eberle, and Paajaarvi up front with Larsson firing pinpoint passes to them up the ice would be something to behold. Our very own Lidstrom...I like fantasy land so much better than reality, it's nice here.
Verification word: dismule
Tambellini is pulling it off by leaving glaring holes the size of [insert something of considerable size here to complete the metphor] in the sides of this sinking team.
ReplyDeleteastsub
I personally am leaning towards Larsson or Couturier. I think either fills a major need on this team and would likely play in the NHL this coming year. To show the fans how committed to youth this team is (while secretly trading away anyone of value over the age of 23).
Its been a while since Edmonton have been involved in an important 4-point game.
ReplyDeleteA clutch loss tonight gives them a bit of an edge on Ottawa, and helps make the Kings life more difficult.
C'mon boys get'er done
'hancu' very much!
Hemsky out 2-3 week min with shoulder injury.
ReplyDeleteGood thing Tambellini didn't trade him.
I wanted to vent about Winnipeg for a second.
ReplyDeleteI Hate Winnipeg
Just kidding, great song though.
A couple of weeks back, Gary Dorkface breezes through town and tells us we’re lucky to have an NHL owner who is willing to pump $100 large into our puny market’s new Hockeydome.
This week, we hear the NHL is seriously eyeing a previously failed market, with an arena smaller than ours and an economy that’s three-quarters the size of our puny one.
Do I need to take more medication because my entes are in a knot over this one?
Nennog, Ottawa doesn't seem to draft for need so much as best player available [BPA].
ReplyDeleteI think you should always draft BPA, and if that's who they think Larsson is, that's who they'll get. With his head coach's ties to Ottawa, and how much he's been raving and touting the young man, I can't see Ottawa passing on him, but I could easily be wrong.
Gerber vs Anderson

ReplyDeleteTambellini: "lets aim for the bushes"
The Other Guy quotes work wonderfully for the Oilers.
ReplyDeleteLowe: You know what, I'm going to hang onto the wooden gun.
Tambellini: To give me back my real gun?
Lowe: No. I'm going to give you this... It's a rape whistle. You blow that if you're in any trouble, and someone with an actual gun will come and help you out.
Tambellini: [Quietly blows the whistle]
Tambellini: I'm like a peacock, you gotta let me fly!
ReplyDeleteLowe: Ay, ay, ay! If I wanna hear you talk, I'll shove my arm up your ass and work your mouth like a puppet!

trator: maybe we can get back Schremp from the thrashers and he can get to work on that 100 point season.
ReplyDeleteand don't worry about 83 being here and don't worry about this injury negating any of his value becase the Puppet doesn't get real value in his deals anyway.
neither does lowe for that matter.
Lowe: No, I don't like you. I think you're a fake GM. The sound of your piss hitting the urinal, it sounds feminine. If you were in the wild, I would attack you, even if you weren't in my food chain. I would go out of my way to attack you. If I were a lion and you were a tuna, I would swim out in the middle of the ocean and freaking eat you and then I'd bang your tuna girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteTambellini: OK, first off: a lion, swimming in the ocean. Lions don't like water. If you placed it near a river or some sort of fresh water source, that make sense. But you find yourself in the ocean, 20 foot wave, I'm assuming off the coast of South Africa, coming up against a full grown 800 pound tuna with his 20 or 30 friends, you lose that battle, you lose that battle 9 times out of 10. And guess what, you've wandered into our school of tuna and we now have a taste of lion. We've talked to ourselves. We've communicated and said 'You know what, lion tastes good, let's go get some more lion'. We've developed a system to establish a beach-head and aggressively hunt you and your family and we will corner your pride, your children, your offspring.
Lowe: How you gonna do that?
Tambellini: We will construct a series of breathing apparatus with kelp. We will be able to trap certain amounts of oxygen. It's not gonna be days at a time. An hour? Hour forty-five? No problem. That will give us enough time to figure out where you live, go back to the sea, get some more oxygen, and stalk you. You just lost at your own game. You're outgunned and out-manned.
[pause]
Tambellini: Did that go the way you thought it was gonna go? Nope.
Lowe: What is this?
ReplyDeleteTambellini: Its my car, Its a Prius.
Lowe: I feel like we're literally driving around in a vagina.
hm, another lost season and it looks like we've gone through the rabbit hole again
ReplyDeletesorry Dennis my memories of WKRP are mostly of Bailey Quarters and what I would do with her after a couple of bottles of wine
that's great stuff Mr. D. regarding the Peg.
So if I have this right (and I've seen this a few summers running now so I'll eat a bug if I'm not) we're in for ~ three more months of rage, followed by a month of excitement which will degenerate into angry arguments as we get to the draft.
Then there will be joy and hope with the Oiler picks but this will be overwhelmed by a flood of bitterness when ST jettisons Hemsky and (probably) a few other useful or relatively useful pieces.
Then there will be forlorn hope leading up to Canada Day and then the remainder of the summer will be spent in despair as we watch other teams improve themselves or at least try to.
September will roll around and we will be caught up in the excitement of training camp. Ten games into the season we will realize that we wil be a lottery club for the third season running and we'll start the cycle all over again.
There, just saved everyone the trouble of logging in and getting worked up. ;)
You're welcome
In the spirit of Black Dog's comments, I don't think most of the words you're all going to use over the summer mean what you think they do.
ReplyDeleteDanny buddy, too much peyote I think.
ReplyDeleteNot going to tell you how to live your life but I hope you're on your couch and nowhere near a vehicle or heavy machinery.
Dennis, if Ottawa is stupid enough to try to salvage things with what they currently have, I think they're likely to look like we did circa 2007-09. Anderson may have bolstered this goaltending in the short run, but they have sunk so much money into ineffective and aging forwards and d-men that it's difficult to see how even signing someone like Brad Richards would make the difference.
ReplyDeleteThey get the "privilege" of devoting $12.3M to their top 3 D (Gonchar, Kuba and Phillips) all of whom are aging and proving remarkably ineffective this year. At 36, a guy like Gonchar might be done completely, though the Sens will have to pay him until 2013.
Up front, they've got the trio of Spezza, Alfredsson and Michalek costing $16.2M for the next couple years (and that Spezza contract will be like a lead weight until 2015 - he's got to be the dictionary definition of a "fair weather player").
In other words, they've already got half their cap room for the next 2 years invested in old, declining players (and the underperforming Michalek) with contracts too large to be easily moved. This is, in fact, the perfect time for Ottawa to tank, reload with some younger players and clear out bad contracts.
Or, put another way: there may be a team with a worse short-term prognosis than the Oil!
BD: I'm a peacock, you gotta let me fly (and i had to google peyote)

Trust me 36 is not old. Watched OTR and Messier still looks like he can play at 50 like all the rest of us 50 year olds :-)I still remember him routinely making bad cross ice breakouts in his own end playing with Matti Hagman
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope you guys are right about the Penner trade. I do not believe it was an adequate trade but somebody on TSN telling me so does not change my mind.
Fact that Oiler management think he can become a #5 D man is also not reassuring in the least. Jason Smith played all of the tough minutes in SCF as a #2 D man. Bad comparison.
In looking at #20 to 30 picks saw again the 2003 draft and started crying ...... I knew about Parise but Getzlaf,Burns, Kesler, Richards, Perry ALL went after the Oiler 1st round pick.
That is truly horrible .....it is almost pick the worse possible player available.
For those of you that suggest draft pedigree or World Junior history are really important, subsquent development be damned: Shawn Belle was on the 2nd pairing on Canada's best World Junior team and was also selected 30th overall in the spectacular 2003 draft.
denis:
ReplyDeleteDo you still think Pouliot is better than Parise?
50 cents for Hemsky is better than signing him long-term.
Imagine all the vet 3rd line C's we could buy use with Hemsky's money. You should be happy.
"Nothing like Hemsky getting injured the game after trade deadline. *#&$ hell!"
ReplyDeleteHemsky's easily our best player on the IR. That has to count for something.
Duce
ReplyDeleteAgree with you. Khabby is like a seat filler at the Oscars.... he can sit in a chair when the star gets up to go take a piss. Course if you are diving for the bottom, 4 out of 5 games he can really help you in that regard
Also agree DD looks a wee bit fragile.
Hey Khabby clears on waivers and we put him in the AHL do we have the same munber (salary) in the minors that Cactus says Ottawa has as old "overpays" on its NHL roster? Yup, Ottawa's GM is sure stupid
Gerber stole some meaningless games for the Leafs down the stretch in 08/09
ReplyDeleteIt moved them from picking 4th (Evander Kane) or 5th (Brayden Schenn) to 7th (Kadri)
Fear the Gerber
The funny thing is, if Burke had just hung on to Gerber on a cheap 1 year contract, they wouldn't have finished anywhere near 29th and given Boston the 2nd overall. Instead they let him head to the Euro leagues, and Toskala screwed the pooch. Other than putting a bow on top they couldn't have done more to gift wrap Seguin for the Bruins; ah those crazy oribonts.
Booger.
ReplyDeleteI think people are far too anxious to throw the towel in on Gagner. He might not be the #1 center we hoped he was (there is still some chance though), but if you're giving him up and a 1st, you better be damn sure about what you're getting with a 8-12-ish overall D man.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, the Oilers definitely need to start losing better! "We traded away Penner! Don't make us get rid of Hemsky now!".
Hemsky's easily our best player on the IR. That has to count for something.
ReplyDeleteCrosby and Malkin are easily the best players the Pens have on the IR...what does that count for? Nonsu?

ReplyDeleteNo question that Pouliot is a better player than Parise today!!! Without doubt
Mind you Parise is injured whereas MAP is a point a game man in the AHL
Racki, Hemsky is gone again with a shoulder injury. They say 2-3 weeks, but seeing there is nothing to play for, why not shelf him now, so he can go on a tear until next years trade deadline.
ReplyDeleteBailey Quarters was responsible for a lot of loin stirring and the equivalent of 100 oil drums worth of Nivea being spilled in households daily during the late 70's.
ReplyDelete"I think people are far too anxious to throw the towel in on Gagner."
ReplyDelete- Lander is the future 3C of this hockey team
- Edmonton has identified a need for a top 6 center (re: Schenn)
- Shawn Horcoff is a 40 point guy making 5.5M (his contract is unmovable)
I'm sure management would rather keep Gagner than Horcoff but what are you going to do?
CrazyCoach: I'm glad you caught that.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I get the feeling reading todays thread that that Klowe and 3.0 are really Herb Tarlek and Les Nessman?
ReplyDeleteLittle Fury, I totally remember that from the very first episode of WKRP where Andy Travers revives Dr. Johnny Fever.
ReplyDeleteCrazyCoach: Yah there doesn't seem to be really any reason to play him right now, does there? Other than to add to his resume that he played 56 games this season instead of 47. Oi.
ReplyDeleteThere's what, 18 games left? He'll be out for close to half of those as is... I'd rather they do what Woodguy says too and just ride Khabby for a while and seal the deal ;)
Rich I heard Tambo's next promotion for the team is to throw turkeys out of a helicopter into the Rexall parking lot during Thanksgiving.
ReplyDelete@ Racki
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more.
Moving Gagner to go up 8 places in the draft would make me sick.
With God as my witness: I though Teuberts could fly.
ReplyDeleteRacki, the boy needs rest that's for sure. No reason to play him other than preventing charges of tanking
ReplyDeleteLittle Fury, I think we've found the solution to the problem with the Oilers. KLowe and Katz are WKRP fans.
ReplyDelete"why not shelf him now, so he can go on a tear until next years trade deadline."
ReplyDeleteGood plan in theory but what are the chances Hemsky stays healthy for 60 games next year?
We missed our opportunity.
crazycoach - Tambo is pushing most of the Oilers out of a helicopter at Thanksgiving?
ReplyDeleteIf Lowe is involved I could get behind it, at worst we'd get rid of he and ST as they would be sent up the river for murder.
'As God is my witness I thought Strudwick and Jacques could fly!!!"
saurscul= sour skull
ReplyDeleteAnd Danny, I prefer to either eat my peyote or have it in a tea but if you want to google it, well whatever works for you pal. Sounds a little far out to me though.
ReplyDeleteTraktor: I am OK with trading away Gagner, more than I ever have been. So I'm not 100% sold that he's a great center either. But I just think it would be overpayment to give up a mid-late 1st plus Gagner to draft around 8th or so required to get Hamilton.
ReplyDeleteAs for Lander, he's still a big unknown.. although I'm confident that yes, probably 3rd line in time is a reasonable expectation to have for him.
I think I just really have a tough time taking our 6th overall C-man, PLUS a pick, and drafting a guy who ISS rates at 10th or so. It just seems like we're throwing away a good asset because he isn't scoring big here yet.
I will definitely concede that he is becoming less and less a top C in my mind though, more so because of his play without the puck. But he could have a lot of value to a team out East though, and therefore fetch us something better.
Thanks for the kind words boys.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck tonight.
Traktor, don't be so hard on Gagner, I think he's he kinda cute.
I hope my verification word isn't referring to any of you, its
nonsize.
Black Dog I'm waiting for the time they reveal the new Bailey Quarters.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are cutting me up this morning. Our receptionist just asked what I was laughing at.
CC: dodgy accounting to make the station/team look unprofitable? Check.
ReplyDeleteBumbling senior management kept on due to emotional ties to ownership? Check.
New general manager brought in to turn the station/team around? Check?
Only question left is if Pat Laforge's white belt matches his shoes.
Well I'll be damned. I type it and there she is.
ReplyDeleteHello Ms Quarters..........
I like that Hall-Cogs-Ebs has been broken up. They went more than oofer in the last two games.
ReplyDeleteWhite belt?
ReplyDeleteBA HA HA HAHA HAHHAHAHHA!
Who in the world ever thought that looked good?
Probably the same guy who traded Penner for beans
CC: I wear white belt from time to time. Sometimes with white shoes (Converse). I draw the line at the plaid suits though.
ReplyDeleteBD: Plagiarist!
Bailey Quarters was SOOO much better than Jennifer!!
ReplyDeleteTrak: I never said old 78 was better than Parise. I said I thought 78 could be a player.
There's a good chance I'm wrong on that one.
With God as my witness: I though Teuberts could fly.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!
There is now snetal all over my keyboard.
speaking of peyote, anyone here ever try mushroom tea?
ReplyDeleteyea, me neither;)
+1 for any and all Herb Tarlick references.
I remember being just finished school and looking for work - though not very hard;) - and sleeping in until 1145am every morning.
I'd just have time to get up and put the kettle on and get my toast and cheese whiz ready before WKRP came on at 12pm on the comedy network.
the late 90's were a simpler time...
Cytera: who Kevin Lowe thinks was the old lead singer from Chicago.
Never had mushroom tea, but I know a girl who bought 2 lbs of mushrooms and put them into her parents' fridge for later that night. Stepped out and found on returning that her mother had used them to make a delicious pasta sauce...I think they still rave about how gooooood that sauce was to this day.
ReplyDeleteI must ovess that wild mushrooms are the best.
LF - naw just a one finger typist.
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey, my God you make me think dirty thoughts.
Dirtier thoughts.
And yeah 36 isn't old. I'm 43 and while I'm slowing down ever so slightly I'm surely not old.
(He told himself as he shuffled off to change his diaper all the while cursing the teenagers in the foodcourt)
Arthur: Old woman!
ReplyDeleteDennis: MAN!
Arthur: Man, sorry. What knight lives in that castle over there?
Dennis: I'm 37.
Arthur: What?
Dennis: I'm 37! I'm not old!
Arthur: Well, I can't just call you "man".
Dennis: You could say "Dennis".
Arthur: I didn't know you were called Dennis.
Dennis: Well you didn't bother to find out, did you?
Arthur: I did say I'm sorry about the "old woman", but from behind you looked...
Dennis: What I object to is you automatically treatin' me like an inferior.
Arthur: Well, I am king.
Dennis: Oh, king, eh - very nice. And how'd you get that, then? By exploiting the workers! By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.
I can see 3.0 giving the trade updates like Les used to do the traffic reports...
ReplyDelete(3.0 thumping his chest)...uh, yes we've got a Teubert and a draft pick for Penner, you think that's good enough?
Klowe: Tambi, step back from the window, I can't hear you over the sound of the helicopter...
Bailey: Herb, you told me I could have the painting.
ReplyDeleteHerb: Bailey, that was just a figure of speech. You know, like "Thanks a million" or "So's your mother."
I'm pretty torn between WKRP and Prestige Worldwide as shorthand for Oilers management.
ReplyDeleteGoddamnit, I'm confused. I was thinking of the nerdy chick with the orange sweater and glasses on that other show, you know the one with those kids and their dog, the one where they solve mysteries.
ReplyDeleteNot Bailey Quarters. What was her name ...
Thelma? Something like that. What a rack on her.
Little Fury
ReplyDeleteDid some watery tart throw a sword at you?
Hemsky's should is shiragpg
BD: Velma ;)
ReplyDeleteVelma was a real cool chick. She rolled the tightest spliffs and could talk knowledgeably about subjects from Nietzsche to early Bowie to ancient Viking runes. Only thing was: she liked the ladies.
ReplyDeleteBD: Zoinks! You must mean this gal:
ReplyDeletehttp://jfkaps01.free.fr/Linda_Cardellini_01.jpg
That's Linda Cardellini (of Freaks & Geeks "fame") playing everyone's favourite teen detective in those reboots of Scooby Doo/CGI-laden brainpoison from a couple years ago. You should probably pick the DVDs up... for the kids ;)
Oh, and here's another pic of her I found. For reference. Yyyeah... http://www.thegossipbee.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/linda-cardellini-4.jpg
Might want to hit the defog on your computer screen for that second link.
ReplyDeleteFunny you noticed Velma when Daphne was always wearing that short skirt.
ReplyDeleteAlso adding that type of context to Scooby Doo seems sureak.
Also can we PLEASE cut down on all this Oilers chatter. What do you think this is? Some sort of hockey blog? Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteLinda Cardellini?
ReplyDeleteMore like Anne Arexia if you ask me.
And its moistened bint.
Bint!
now this should get everyone excited to spend money.
ReplyDeletehttp://web.edmontonoilers.com/renewal-2011-12/
fluawnic ... the feeling you get after the trade deadline is over.
Scooby doo was full of subtext. Daphne was Fred's beard. Scooby a product of Shaggy's drug-addled imagination. The real ghosts and goblins in each episode weren't just old men wearing masks: they were the Gang's personal demons.
ReplyDeleteThat second pic is 'shopped so hard.
Never had mushroom tea, but I know a girl who bought 2 lbs of mushrooms and put them into her parents' fridge for later that night. Stepped out and found on returning that her mother had used them to make a delicious pasta sauce...I think they still rave about how gooooood that sauce was to this day.
ReplyDeleteThis never happened.
Don't worry Bailey I'm just kidding you're always be first place in my heart. Like Smytty.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who Linda Tambellini is, I was thinking about the cartoony.
Actually next Halloween the fam is going out as the Scooby Doo gang. Looking forward to seeing the wife as Daphne. I have a boner already.
"Enjoy the Journey?"
ReplyDeleteThey've got balls, I'll give them that.
ah linda cardellini in freaks and geeks - great show. She was very hygbyx in that one.

ReplyDeleteTraktor, Traktor, Traktor,
ReplyDeletemust you be so cranky?
Even I know that Shawn's Point-per-Game numbers up 25% this season.
Relax already.
Because, honestly, my word is very applicable here
beeigons.
Please.
lurgepinis - What is in my pants.
ReplyDeleteTraktor really should have his own blog where he can prognosticate and we can call him out every time he makes a prediction.
ReplyDeleteI suggest www.crontid.com
I would go to Traktor's blog.
ReplyDeleteI find I am indifferent to the news of a Hemsky injury these days.
ReplyDeletereplace hemsky injury with Edmonton Oilers and I'm with you.
ReplyDeletereams - wait, that's an actual word!
ReplyDeleteNot reading threads anymore, just refreshing to see what word comes up...I am now a manual spambot.
ourli - almost an anagram for oiler, just need an e.
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely certain no one in this sphere would believe me, and so therefore shall not waste anyone's time...
ReplyDeletelol...
but...
i've got a hot date tonight...incredibly the OIlers take second fiddle
"hunter,
ReplyDeleteNo offense to your date, but taking your hypochondriac grandma to the ER for 8 hours is worth skipping the Oiler game ... ;o)
good luck !
takins ... hunter is takins the best option !
Good luck Hunter, maybo you will get to enjoy some *phylato* on your date.
ReplyDeleteI think you need it.
What's his name?
ReplyDeleteI always assumed Hunter was old and crusty, and pretty sure by 'hot date' he means this
ReplyDeleteWhat will we do w/out Hunter's repartee tonite?
ReplyDeleteOh well, there's always Traktor.
Good luck on the date. Make sure to give her plenty to drink.
A few hours later and Bailey Q is still here.
ReplyDeleteBooger!
Well at least Gagner is going to play w/Paajarvi and Omark tonite.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Renney feel's he has no choice if he wants two lines with the potential to generate offense.
A reason to get home after my travel team's practice.
Now I wish that someone was streaming Hunter's date. I'll bet we could provide a better (and much more enjoyable) running commentary on the date than we can on the game. No Hemsky and no Penner means that if Hall doesn't decide to dominate the game it's almost guranteed to be forgettable, even with Rifle's return.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though - who's streaming the date on Justin.tv? I nominate BD and book;e. Even if the date is a failure if they're giving colour comentary on it, it's bound to be gold. You guys can get pick your own inside the game analyst and fight over who's doing play-by-play and who's doing colour.
If you get Gene Principe to do the interview though, someone will replace all your naughty videos with Richard Simmons in a speedo... with Gene.
When there is awkward silence Hunter. Just take it out.
ReplyDeleteOr do the naked man. Works 66% of the time.
So I got on a train Monday morning in Winnipeg. Passed through Edmonton Tuesday morning and some of our bathrooms had to be shut down because their pipes froze. I saw an Oil Kings billboard as we passed by and I'm pretty sure I was hit by a wave of depression from all you lost souls in Northern AB who follow this here team.
ReplyDeleteGot off the train yesterday in Vancouver. They seem to have an NHL hockey team, they do have a beach on campus at UBC, and I haven't seen Mother Nature even think of snow since I got here. This is... nice. I feel... compelled... to go to GM Place. And cheer. For...
Oh fuck off. If it were that easy we'd all have given up years ago.
I'll do colour - I can drink more beer then - I get smarter the more beer I drink.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, why did the Penner trade stuff die down so quickly here?
Yea, it sounds like Stauffer and Brownlee both have Gagner with Omark and Pajaarvi. I guess I just shouldn't post the lines Tencer puts up. He seems to have them wrong 35% of the time.
ReplyDeleteI never knew I'd live to see this level of online support...
ReplyDeleteThe Naked Man
ReplyDelete66% of the time it works all the time.
oh how i love my online friends
ReplyDeleteI think it's been a long time since things have been this dark for the Oilers.
ReplyDeleteFor tonight obviously because 83's out again so a nearly unwatchable team crosses over To the unwatchable.
but, moreover, overall, given what we have in terms of Real players and what the overall plan is and the guys who are running the show
You need more than three kid fowards plus 10-49-77 to build something around.
13's still lost, 89's losing ground this year and who the fuck cares about 5 and/or thinks he's the answer to anything. Plus, 58's yet to make hay for any number of consecutive games and Teubet was already leaning towards suspect status in his first org.
Note: I didn't include Whitney in that discussoion because the first person who talks about 83 being injury prone - which he admittedly is - had also better include the Christly 6 in that narrative as well.
Plus, it's like me and a couple of others said last week: not all the highly touted picks are gonna turn and/or will avoid injury.
So hearing about Pitlick losing time drives home that point as well.
The old joke about HFBoards were how all hands over there would expect every prospect to turn out and that the world would be all sunshine and lollipops. Well, it seems like the brass has fallen into the same trap with the trade of 27 for hopes and dreams and all the arrows pointing 83 straight out the door as well.
It's a lottery team this year and there's a great chance it's a lottery team next year and then out of the playoffs again in 2013.
So, we're running on five years out of the playoffs with six an excellent bet and seven not something you'd balk at putting money on either.
Plus, it's up to all the kids in the pipe to make the jump without injury or much regression because if the Oilers don't realize the value of their own in-house Real players than why would we believe they're about to try and procure some from outside? Or if they do that they'll know what to look for.
Like I said, it's pretty dark right now.
Showerhead, walk out of the train station to main st. then go four blocks North.
ReplyDeletePOrtage & Main don't seem too bad now do they?
I'm on Atlantic time again and therefore a few hours late in responding but there was some discussion early ind the thread about the oilers throwing an RFA offer at Weber. Not saying they won't but that the system makes it so they shouldn't.
ReplyDeleteLinking the compensation to rounds in the NHL draft unfairly penalizes bad teams and rewards good teams, the exact opposite of what should be happening if we want even talent distribution and parity. For a simple example, let's take the Penner year and say the compensation was a first rounder. The price for Tampa Bay to sign Penner is Steven Stamkos. The price for Detroit to sign Penner is
Thomas McCollum. That's a massive difference.
It's akin to going to the Toyota dealership and finding out the price for the Highhlander for you as a septic tank cleaner is $125,000 but the Cardiovascular surgeon gets his for $12,000.
I've discussed a solution in the past but it takes 1000 words so we'll see the interest first but this is a real loophole and if RFAs ever become a real way to accumulate talent on a level with UFAs or the draft, it could have serious consequences.
I may get roasted for this, but I think that we can compete for a playoff spot next year.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have your attention :)
I think 7 moves will make us a much more competitive team.
1. sign jones to a two year contract of 1 million per year
2. At the draft, target a team that is close to the cap and does not have a first rounder or needs more draft picks. For example, but not linited to, the flyers. They have crazy depth on D; however, Coburn is a ufa after next year and they are close to the cap. Also, Leino is a UFA this year and Meszaros makes a pretty big ticket.
I would make a pitch to Holmgrom for
Flyers: LA first, Foster, third
Oilers: B. Coburn or Meszaros, Rights to Leino
There are other teams in the flyers position also like the sharks or rangers that LA's first for a player could be enticing for.
3. Bring Ladner over this year so that he is seasoned for the start of next season.
4. Trade Brule for David Clarkson. We need an actual tough guy who can play hockey and our salary cap room could be an asset to a team like the devils.
5. Draft Larsson and play him in the AHL for a season with Teubert
6. Sign Wisnewski to a two year overpay deal like 4 million a year.
7. Resign Hemsky
Hall Horcoff Hemsky
Leino Gagner Eberle
MPS Ladner Omark
Jones Cogs Clarkson
Whitney Gilbert
Coburn Wisnewski
Smid Peckham
Petry
DD
Booze
I think those moves are all achievable and I believe that this team could compete for the playoffs.
*wityinta* - Winner of Lakeland College Pick-Up line Contest.
ReplyDeleteRemember Hunter, go hard to the crease and good things will happen. You might pick up a lucky deflection off your ass.
Peyote is a wander in the desert you will vaguely remember but will never forget.
ReplyDeleteOr so I thought I heard a day after wandering around in a desert in south western bolivia.
With two pounds of mushrooms, that had better have been a huge batch of canned sauce. Plus anyone who puts 2 lbs of freezer dried mushroom into a batch of sauce is the most make believe person I have ever heard of, unless it was done knowingly.
Lying about too many drugs is as bad a FORMA as lying about too few.
Ottawa is screwed if they try to right the ship in the off-season. A sure fire plan for mediocrity is likely a foot.
ReplyDeleteMurray has shown he can sometimes know what he is doing. The phillips move makes more sense in this light but less sense than taking a breather for a season or two.
We're in permanent vacation mode. I cannot stomach half cheering for losses another go round next season. They have to fix the draft order. You should not have any motivation to intentionally suck. It is not a thing that should be rewarded so richly.
Should be an even money lottery for all teams falling out of the playoffs. That way there is no guarantees. If LA falls short, there is an even money chance that pick is really valuable. If Ottawa and Edmonton finish last, there is nothing but shame to be handed out. The absolute logical wrong being witnessed occuring here is just brutal.
DAZESSED: a euphoric state where you can overlook the obvious short comings of current course and be allowed to stay blissfully unaware until better times are on the horizon.
@ Jon
ReplyDeleteTechnically you could compete for the playoffs almost any year, as long as you are not handcuffed by cap concerns to make bold moves.
Could and Will are two different states.
We COULD likely compete for the playoffs we WILL not.
Lets try and come up with a creative nomenclature for intentionally running aground. I'll go first
The oilers managed to successfully tank this season and hope to Brewster another one.
Whether they have the WERITAWL to pull it off is yet to be seen.
I posted this a couple days ago in the predators thread but I didn't get any bites. Maybe this time.
ReplyDeleteYou think the rangers would trade Chris Drury for Sheldon Souray.
There are rumours that Drury is headed for a buyout next year. He's got a 7M cap hit but his salary is only 5M, which is 500K more than Souray. We would spend that on a 4th line C anyway and we don't need the cap space next year.
Maybe it could work out for both teams.
Lord Know's we've needed a RH Center for a long time.
I can't see a reason why not if the Rangers are buying him out.
ReplyDeleteIt does bite into our cap space though...and that seems to be a piece of the justification why dealing a 30 ish goal scoring LW for dice rolls was a good idea.
Using movie/tv show references for Oiler management are good, but I was more thinking of a Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Movie from the mid 90's
ReplyDeleteWord verification was: HUGE ....... Just sayin
Course it might have been referring to my waist size
http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Goldwater+calls+Scruggs+Coyotes+blame+game/4379807/story.html
ReplyDeleteGoldwater vs Scruggs on Coyotes sale or lack thereof.
Ok, Hemsky out for three weeks. Let's see if I've got the rest of this accurate:
ReplyDelete- with Hemsky out, the Oilers go on an unusual hot streak, driven mostly by percentages and luck, which oddly enough cools off around the time Hemsky returns to the lineup.
- Tambellini, seeing this as some sort of indicator that this team is better off without 83 (kind of like those who were arguing that the Oilers with Horcoff on IR were a better team, only in this case, even a dumber stance), trades him at the draft to move LA's pick up 7 or 8 spots in the first round, or to a team for another late 1st rounder, two second round picks, and Tyler Cuma.
- The Oil then struggle to top-five picks in 2012 and 2013, wondering why a RW 1/2 punch of Eberle and Omark can't "carry the mail".
Sounds like how the current Oilers org would roll, right?
Maudite some basketball fans are advocating a tournament for the 14 teams out of the playoffs to play to see who gets the 1st pick.
ReplyDeleteThat is win the LOSER tourney and you pick # 1. Do not think you would have traded Penner at the deadline so you could get to 30th overall. You need him too much for the Loser pool
Idea definitely has some merit
Drury said a few days ago that his knee is really bad and he's probably going to retire.
ReplyDeleteI've just realized I've reached "Dennis Level" when it comes to cynicism about this organization. Just like old times....
ReplyDeletemilbacts: Diseases caught while working in the pulp and paper industry.
Bailey from WKRP reminds me of the Ginger v Maryann debate with Bailey playing the Maryann role and Jennifer Marlowe the Ginger role.
ReplyDeleteMy interest in watching the Oil tonight can best be quantified by the movie title of a Robert Downey nugget from 1987.
I bet Alex Trebek is absolutely swimming in poon.
Would now be a good time to give Giroux a get out the minors free card to see if he's capable of lighting the lamp in the bigs?
Teddy Peckman is the kind of guy that will bring a gun to a knife fight. Sam Gagner brings his sister's skipping rope.
Teddy Peckham sucks at fighting. He seems to like wrestling and going for takedowns.
ReplyDeleteHe should learn to fight if he's gonna drop his mitts.
CM, depends how valuable Drury's 56 percent faceoff rate it. At this point, it might just be worth it, but does Drury have a no movement clause? Seems like anyone over $5M doees these days.
ReplyDeleteDennis, while I too lament the lack of Hemsky's dynamic presence on my TV tonight, I find it hard to believe that the events of the last week have pushed the team into "unwatchable" territory. Before the trade deadline, this was a 30th place team that lost a lot. It has the worst powerplay and penalty kill. The Oilers get scored on more than anyone but woeful Colorado and only the disaster in Ottawa puts the puck in the opposition's net less than us. This team may still be worth watching to see exciting youth development, out of misguided loyalties, for the love of hockey or because there's somehow nothing better to do.
I understand (even if I do not agree with) the passionate outcry following the Penner trade, with some saying the team wasn't worth watching anymore. But he was a good player making important contributions to a losing team, not some sort of dynamic talent that glues you to the screen. I find it admirable if some people, motivated by conviction, want to send a message to management by boycotting broadcasts or going to games. But claiming that one trade and one injury have made this 30th place team unwatchable? That stretches credulity.
Raquel Welch is now doing tv ads for reading glasses AND I would still bang her like a rusty screen door.
ReplyDeleteFair to say the Penner trade doesn't so much extend the rebuild as it does confirm the timeline to the world at large? He's 1 player. Claiming he was the difference between contending or not next year strikes me as fairly gross exaggeration. If Penner's traded back to the Ducks, he's still a 2nd line winger on that team behind Getzlaf, Ryan and Perry. Good player and I'll miss him but we're not talking about Crosby or Stamkos levels of impact here.
ReplyDeletehbomb:
ReplyDeleteLuckily for you I expect Tambellini to sign Hemsky. 6M for a guy who has played 67 games the past two years.
One thing for certain is Tambellini isn't getting more for value for 83 than he would have at the TDL. Especially with his recent injury.
I'm starting to agree with the rest that Tambs should be fired but for me he should be canned for not dealing Hemsky. Tambellini is going to wait until he has zero value just like Souray.
Cactus: taking two real players away from a bunch of drek? I would say that moves it into the unwatchable.
ReplyDeleteLee: moving 27 for nothing that helps us until at least 2013 and then alluding to 83 being out the door?
that's heading towards perennial loser territory.
The Oilers are heading towards perennial loser territory? I think it's safe to say they've been there, done that and bought the t-shirt. 2006 was smoke and mirrors (1 year of Pronger, the trap, Cinderella goalie, etc.) This team has been very bad for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteBut Dennis losing is what the Oilers are really good at.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should trade for this guy
ReplyDeleteTambellini is going to wait until he has zero value just like Souray.

ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to watch the game tonight. It will be a great way to reste before the report cards are due.
ReplyDeleteBTW, if you ever want a more inconsistent predictor of future success than goalie draft scouting reports, you need to go back into your past and re-read your own report cards. Writing these things is a waste of time (unless it means keeping my job, in which case they are invaluable and I love doing it).
Lee: true enough but now they are just taking a loser approach. As in let's deal off almost everyone that has real value and bet on great selections and unfailing health of great selections.
ReplyDeleteKent Wilson, who is a good writer at Flames Nation and other stuff coined this term and slogan for Oiler Management:

"Losing is Winning"

*slow clap*
My old report cards own pretty hard. For some reason my mom kept them all and gave them to my wife shortly after we got married.
ReplyDeleteShe found them amusing.
I can't bring myself to read Oilers nation. Why they hell would any self respecting Oilfans read the Flames one?
ReplyDeleteThe Oilers are heading towards perennial loser territory? I think it's safe to say they've been there, done that and bought the t-shirt. 2006 was smoke and mirrors (1 year of Pronger, the trap, Cinderella goalie, etc.) This team has been very bad for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteThe 2006 team was a very good hockey team. The construction and coaching of that team is something of a good model I think.
That being said, yeah. They've been bad wwwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyy more than good since 1991.
That's 20 years or so.
Lordy.
Has Principe stepped up his game?
ReplyDeleteIf there was a pun sewn into that Omark/Mason outro, it flew right over my head.
Lordy is right. The Oilers are to winning as marriage is to sex. Thankfully my wife is getting more wild with age and I can always take the Canucks as a mistress.
ReplyDeletethecaptainmoreau with an excellent penalty.
ReplyDeleteexample of a chump = chemple
Geez Petiot is really not making a good impression here. One bad giveaway in the oiler zone and then the hook on the breakaway that led to the penalty shot.
ReplyDeleteGREAT play by PRV
ReplyDeleteThat was a sick pass from the kid.
ReplyDeleteRemember that guy who used to do the heavy cherry picking hit & run posts all over the Edmonton Oilers blogs, and then it was discovered he had assembled a private forum of like minded internet posters, kind of like a secret society of hockey forum contributors, but instead of discussing hockey they gossiped about internet commentors on other hockey websites, but as if that wasn't pathetic enough, when they believed that they were protected by anonymity it turns out their conversation began taking a turn toward the homoerotic, as they began sharing fantasies about internet hockey contributors and what they did with their bodily fluids and the like..?
ReplyDeleteWhat ever happened with those weirdos? Surely they're too ashamed to come around here anymore and pull off their tired, old schtick.
Taylor Hall is not bad.
ReplyDeleteHall will start to find holes to the net, like a cyclone finds ways to destroy mobile homes.
ReplyDeleteuntic!
It's crazy the amount of goals that guy scores from there. I haven't seen anything like it since the 80's when the goalies sucked.
ReplyDeleteGod damit.
ReplyDeleteNow Strudwick is a on a point streak!
We should've traded that Hall kid before he F's up our draft position.
ReplyDeleteI can't bring myself to read Oilers nation. Why they hell would any self respecting Oilfans read the Flames one?
