The IIHF official site has posted the team rosters and MPS is not listed for team Sweden. I'm not certain if he can be added (the team has 15 skaters and 3 goalies, 4 fewer than team Canada has listed at this time). Should Paarjavi-Svensson make the team it would have to be considered a huge deal, but Oiler fans will have to be content with Linus Omark's presence.
The Germans defeated the Americans 2-1 in early WHC action this afternoon. Ryan Potulny had 4 shots and was minus 1 and Taylor Chorney played 5 minutes for the Americans.

And Chorney was... -2?
ReplyDeleteI can hear Tambellini now:
ReplyDelete"Note to self. Sign German defencemen to play with Chorney next year."
Scott: lol. No, he was even in (I think) 8 shifts.
ReplyDeleteLT: Sounds like an arrow in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the short roster means they will add MPS if fewer NHLers than expected accept invites. It would be a pretty big feather in his cap if MPS gets to play in the WHC at 18 (albeit in an Olympic year). Plus the bonus of fans getting to see it on TV.
Here's hoping 2 Sedins and Samuelsson are added to the Sweden roster sometime Sunday evening.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Swedes are holding out to see if Detroit gets punted tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSchitzo:
ReplyDeleteLooking around, I'm sure their holding out to see if they have any shot at any of Sedin 1, Sedin 2, Samuelson, Lidstrom, Kronwall, Zetterberg, Franzen...
.... there were 77 thousand watching Germany upset the US... ha.
Schitzo,
ReplyDeleteOT - Were you the fellow that found the player in Riley Nash's situation that Phoenix signed as some kind of FA? If so, who is he?
Chorney took two penalties in the second period and doesn't look to have seen the ice after that.
ReplyDeleteDeano - you're thinking of Blake Wheeler.
ReplyDeleteUnder the old CBA you became a free agent after four years of college. As of the new CBA, they expanded draft eligibility to include age 21 and 22 players who had been drafted previously. That seems like it should have closed the option to become a UFA, but speeds found me at least one other player who did the same thing under the new CBA. I have no idea how it works at this point.
Am I the only one that thinks 2 years for European players is too short?
ReplyDeleteEspecially since it's so hard to get them to come over to play in the AHL?
Right now Sweden only has nine forwards so MPS definitely still has a chance of playing. They're holding out hope for more NHLers, so we'll see.
ReplyDeleteI think MPS has a better chance than Eberle right now. According to Mess he'll only play if someone gets hurt.
Schitzo - thanks, but it's not Wheeler. I was mistaken, it wasn't your post.
ReplyDeleteI just talked to a friend in Finland who follows Hartikainen's team.
ReplyDeleteHe says he's crossing the ocean this summer.
Hi..longtime reader first time poster. Looking for help looking for information on getting tiks for the draft in LA next month. Anyone know where i can buy tiks? I looked on the kings site etc. Thanks, Greg
ReplyDeletefpb - where is your friend going?
ReplyDeleteI keed! I keed!
I think we'll see Hartkinen and MPS come over this fall actually. I look forward to seeing them. The Finn looks like he may have been a damn good pick.
Greg - according to the article announcing the draft on the site you can call 1-888-KINGS-LA for ticket info
ReplyDeleteFollowing you on Twitter Pat.
ReplyDeleteBe pithy.
Burrows is a piece of shit.
ReplyDeleteOTB - I do my best ;)
ReplyDeletePDO - he's killing his club. Its one thing to be a pest or difficult to play against but he's off the rails, second game in a row.
Dummy.
BD:
ReplyDeleteYeah, not only was it stupid... but reckless too.
Since the NHL only dishes out suspensions based on the injury, there won't be one, but I'd really like to see him gone for the series... that could have ended up a lot worse, and it's one of those "you just don't do that" things.
The way the Hawks are playing it would be a one game suspension.
ReplyDeleteWhat did Burrows do?
ReplyDeletePunch someone in the nuts?
Crosby got away with it.
After the first 5 periods of this series the Canucks looked like they were on their way to round 3. Not so much any more.
ReplyDeleteFPB:
ReplyDeleteCross checked someone in the head/face multiple times while he was laying on the ice.
Never made great contact, but the intent was there.
Watching Vancouver implode is just beautiful.
Crosby got away with it.
ReplyDeleteThat's because the refs are biased against Montreal.
PDO: Yeah... that's a no-no.
ReplyDeleteYou just don't. At least have the decency of not using your stick.
I don't know if he got visit, but i would have thrown him around.
Steve: That was actually vs Atlanta... not relevant.
ReplyDeleteSteve: That was actually vs Atlanta... not relevant.
ReplyDeleteMy point stands.
Hmmm okay. Tought you were being sarcastic or something.
ReplyDeleteReally should reinstate the reverse exclamation mark to make it sarcasm.
Habs gave Sergei the Laraque treatment and told him we'll pay you to stay the hell away from the team.
ReplyDeleteSalayat UFA offered him 2M$. I think it was obvious when he got scratched that he wouldn't return.
ReplyDeleteHi..longtime reader first time poster. Looking for help looking for information on getting tiks for the draft in LA next month. Anyone know where i can buy tiks? I looked on the kings site etc. Thanks, Greg
ReplyDeletethey will sell tickets in a few weeks from now. There will be lots available. Should be a lot of us Oiler fans there
Salayat offered 2M to Sergei, really?
ReplyDeleteDamn! Kid would be a fool not to take it. He's got 4 years of RFA left.
Too bad for the habs.
is Eberle playing in today's game versus the Italians?
ReplyDeletei think he can do better if you give him a chance.

Very intriguing perspective on phone numbers. We take our chances to find people via http://www.cellphonelookup.com and often miss the whole point.
