Central Scouting: He moves the puck well, especially on the power-play. While not a great skater – he has a short stride – he can keep up the pace in a quick game with some deceptive speed. He is not an overly physical player and needs to work on winning the one-on-one battles to take his game to the next level.UPDATE- A few more items on this player:
Edmonton Sun-The Skinny: He moves pretty well and has decent hands and good head for the game, but has to get a lot stronger before he can even think about competing at the NHL level. With Rimouski hosting the Memorial Cup next season, this should be a significant year in his development.

Edmonton Journal-In 61 games last season, his second in the QMJHL, he scored 23 goals and 26 assists. Played in Top Prospects Game in Edmonton last winter.
"Highly skilled. He has good hands, he's a pretty good skater," said Prendergast. "He has to get a little tougher in some areas of the ice, but we were told the same thing about (Ales) Hemsky. He fell a little lower than we thought he would fall, but we're happy to have him."

ReplyDeleteNumbers-wise, I don't really get this pick. Granted, Rimouski wasn't an offensive powerhouse by any stretch, but Cornet's performance doesn't look like anything special- even for the fourth round. Still, as LT says, they've been successful in the Q.
ReplyDeleteI think Goulet is a nice comp for him. Stephane Goulet has all kinds of issues but does have one strength (scoring goals) that makes him a prospect.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is probably in that area, as in the scouts feel something about his skill set puts him ahead of other players in his round.
In an interview he said this year was not a good reflection of his offensive skill. He hopes to get more ice time. He hopes to form a second line with Patrice Cormier. He was the second leading scorer with 2nd/3rd line minutes.

He was The #2 overall pick in the 2006 QMJHL bantam draft.
Would be intresting to see were the oilers had him ranked on there list.
