This is Paul Comrie. He turned 30 in February and has not (that I can find) played a hockey game in anger since the turn of the century.Imagine my surprise when I found his name listed "In the System" for the Edmonton Oilers on their newly designed website. Other blasts from the past include Jozef Cierny, who played a game with the Oilers in 93-94, Lukas Zib who was drafted in 1995 and is unlikely to have an NHL career, and Kristian Antilla.
I do not believe any of these players to be part of the organization and if they are it's in a "he's still on our 50 man negotiation list ala Reijo Ruotsalainen" kind of way.
I like the new website, it looks strong. I like the Edmonton Oilers, they are my team.
Why then do I get the feeling that I'm more concerned with accuracy than their webmaster? Isn't it kind of important to list actual prospects in the "In the System" portion of the site?
No big deal, but it kind of makes them look like the Arizona Cardinals of the internet and one would hope they'd aim a little higher. Nice design, though.
well firstly it looks like it's a new template for the rest of the team websites. Carolina switched over too. Will we be connected to them forever now?
ReplyDeleteI will make a guess that in actuality the mistake shows that the webmaster was playing around with new settings and used old prospects to do it.
LT..
ReplyDeleteAre you surprised? Honestly?
All this does is prove that our webmaster knows as much about Oiler prospects as Craig Simpson does about running a powerplay.
:]
I don't really like the new design. BTW, I think the history section is gone. I found that useful
ReplyDeleteAccuracy, smaccuracy.
ReplyDeleteI was looking at Casaneuve's post over at SI on the game last night and they have a picture of Scott N. except they say its Rob N.
And that is the second time this week they have a picture of a guy but the caption is wrong.
The way of the world. Shoddy.
What? No Chris Hajt? No Michael Riesen?
ReplyDeleteAlso, looks like they've fixed it now. No Comries of any flavour or colour "In the System" now.
This website is just one more example of taking the functional and effective and making it the stupid and trendy. God, I hate it. I want to punch it in the face, which is hard because it doesn't have a face.
ReplyDeleteIt actually looks like the similarities go beyond the visual and structural. I'd infer that the nhl has provided all the tools for the site too.
ReplyDeleteMore likely than not, the old entries of Paul Comrie were probably not accurate in the NHL's player-team-player rights database.
Marc Ciampa. He is the webmaster and he also edits and writes for the Rexall game book.
ReplyDeleteI think he does good work and is accessible to the fans. He occasionally verifies information for the fans on HFboards.
I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't be throughly informed on the Oilers prospects considering the fact that 90% of them played for the Oilers last season.
Minor bugs happen.
I hate the new site. HATE!!
