Is "Klefbom" Swedish For "Ryan Whitney"?

Swedish Oil is a must stop everyday, he brings information on all levels. One of his strengths is Oiler kids in Europe and he's got the goods again. Quoting his article and a Finnish reporter (Sami Hoffrén) Klefbom was playing for Sweden against the Russians:
  • Klefbom was hit to the head by a Russian forward and he had to leave the game. Didn’t play in the tournament after that hit. I assume Klefbom suffered a concussion.
We've talked at length on this blog over the years about prospects and injuries. Klefbom has been injured previously this season, and we should be concerned that this and his other injuries could hinder development.

  1. No question.

Players who are brittle and/or unlucky aren't worth caring about.

It's the same thing for girls with strict fathers!

  2. Not wanting to be a prick, but back in the day when a player(eg Glenn Anderson) got injured, I'd merely expect the rest of the talented squad to make up for the loss, until such time as whatever player(in this case Glenn Anderson but it was sometimes Messier and once even Gretzky) returned to action. because that's how a successful team works.

Fast forward 20 years, and not only do I now shave most days of the week, but somehow along with the Oiler fanbase I've found myself transformed into this eternally hopeful yet instantly cynical fan, concerned with such ridiculousness as what might or might not be happening to an AHL prospect, etc.

    And it stinks.

  3. I think it needs to be pointed out that girls with strict fathers often rebel against the strictness of the rule in most delightful ways.

Not that I am still dating any girl young enough to be under the rule of her father. That often.
    ;o)

  4. And in other news on the site... Robert Nilsson clears KHL waivers.

  5. Nik Hagman claimed on re-entry waivers by ANA leaving CAL on the hook for 1/2 his salary.

That Phaneuf trade just continues to get better.

  7. Hey LT,

while you were cruising the Swedish interwebs did you happen to notice how the two tenders the Oilers took last draft are doing?

This falls under the larger realm of "Catholic Schoolgirl/Naughty Librarian Theory".

  10. Foolishly, after reading the headline to this post I was expecting good news.

  11. After posting my last comment, I started sifting through Wikipedia articles about the NHL draft to see whether Klefblom at 19th overall would be a good pick if he turned into Ryan Whitney,* and I reached the following conclusion: the NHL entry draft has had some really ugly logos over the years.

    * Yes, since most 19th overall picks don't amount to much of anything, though exceptions include Keith Tkachuk, Martin Straka, Ryan Getzlaf, and Robyn Regehr. The Oilers' last 19th overall pick was Matthieu Descoteaux in 1996, though Oilers' legend Krys Kolanos also went 19th overall, to Phoenix in 2000.

  12. After reading this post and comments, I immediately went to wikipedia and searched for Catholic Schoolgirls/Naughty Librarians. After some intensive research, it seems that Google is actually a better resource for this kind of thing.

  13. Well, mostly SFW - no relevant bits displayed. Depends on the workplace, I suppose. Overall, probably moderately less SFW than LT's.

Me too; I was thinking "yeah! I could use a good story about Klefbom, something hopeful!" and was kind of crushed. I think this post was badly packaged. :(

  15. Motin have returned home to Sweden, where he will play with Timrå. That pick didn't turn out so well.

Klefbom seems to have got a light concussion and will probably be back in about a week.
