PS G7 Oilers at Wild

We won't get to see behind closed doors until the first OIL CHANGE episode and then only what the Oilers want documented. I think one of the clever Oilogosphere writers should do a script of an outlaw OC complete with what we think is happening. I'd love to hear the real NK conversations and the real Smyth-Fraser story ("didn't Dr. Nick Riviera have a look at him?") but will watch the draft closely (those draft nuggets are gold).

The Oilers haven't posted lines and pairings yet, but I imagine both goalies will get a start this weekend (Wild tonight, Canucks tomorrow). The Oilers have a wonky end of preseason with an entire week between their final pre-season game and their first regular season contest.

The lines at yesterday's practice looked like this:
  • RNH-Smyth-Eberle
  • Horcoff-Hall-Green
  • Belanger-Paajarvi-Hemsky
  • Lander-Petrell-Omark
  • Brule-Hartikainen-Keller
  • O'Marra-Hordichuk-Jones
Make of it what you will, I'd suggest that Josh Green, Anton Lander, Ryan Keller and Ryan O'Marra get sent away. If they IR Gagner and Eager, the rest of the group stays, making for two Finns and three rookies if you count Petrell.

As for the blue, no pairings available but one would guess that Whitney hits IR and the top 7 will be Tom Gilbert, Ladislav Smid, Cam Barker, Andy Sutton, Theo Peckham, Jeff Petry and Corey Potter. That would mean Chorney on waivers in the next few days and Taylor Fedun falling just short on an impressive TC.

The goaltending is complete, Devan Dubnyk and Nikolai Khabibulin.

  1. Time to clean out some of the "talent" that has never made it and never will.

  2. Dreger Twips...

Steve Staios has signed a 1 year deal with the Islanders.

Yay. It really looked like he was done last season.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Staios contract. Base salary 800. Bonuses up to 1.2 . Up to 1.6 if Isles win the Cup.

Isles are going all the way this year!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Has the coaching staff said anything about Potter at all? Will they really keep him up over Chorney?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I have my doubts that the oilers put chorney on waivers.. based on their history, not necessarily his ability.. they seem to like to drag out the inevitable..

Wondering if tonight will be my first time seeing belanger lace'm up.. looking forward to seeing what hes got..

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yeah, you can't put Chorney on waivers...it's like that John Jock guy...whoever he was...they always said he'd get snapped up and look what...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Interested in watching Brule. He's looked pretty poor. Will he get sent down even with Gagner injured? I'm going for yes. We'll see.

Here's how I think/hope things will work out:

    Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky (toughs)
    MPS-Belanger-Omark (second toughs)
    Hall-RNH-Eberle (soft killers)
    Jones-Petrell(PK)-Hartikainen
    Hordichuk

Petrell is listed all over the place as a C, so I suspect he can play there in a pinch.

Hartikainen gets the boot (unfortunately) when Eager comes back. And Jones slides over to RW.

If Gagner comes back and there are no other injuries, then Petrell goes down. (Could be a problem over the long term, especially if RNH stays up for more than 9, maybe MPS or Omark go down briefly if all are healthy... hahahahaha: won't happen.)

Really, Petrell is so valuable as a 4th line PK'er, IMO, that it would be nuts to send him down, ever. Even if someone else provides better ES minutes, that value isn't greater than Petrell's PK work. IMO. 4th lines don't matter that much at ES.

    Smid-Gilbert
    Sutton-Petry
    Barker-Potter
Peckham (looks especially bad to me, and I've always thought he sucked.)

When Whitney comes back, Potter goes down, though he might be better than Peckham, IMO.

One way or another that D sucks unless all the young guys take massive leaps forward. (Possible, but highly unlikely.) And I doubt Potter gets in over Peckham as I would prefer.

Not sure what to do about more RH draws.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Doesn't Peckham usually start slowly? I'm not worried.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Tonights lineup....

    Paajarvi-Belanger-Hemsky
    Petrell-Lander-Omark
    Hartikainen-Brule-Keller
    Hordichuk-O'Marra-Jones

    ReplyDelete
  10. Peckham-Fedun
    Chorney-Gilbert
    Smid-Petry

    Dubnyk

    ReplyDelete
  11. Petry has had a bad camp and seems to be fighting the puck. Although Petry is a much better prospect than Chorney, I think Chorney has looked a little better so far.

So that coupled with waiver concerns means Petry gets farmed with Potter and Chorney staying.

The thing with this team is that its personnel is going to be a lot different by year end.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The fact RNH isn't in the lineup today probably means he has earned his 9 games.

Keller seems to be getting more love than I would have expected. The next Liam Reddox?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Ducey,

Not sure you should make that conclusion. After the last pre-season game, Renney basically telegraphed that RNH will play in VAN, but not in MIN.

So, this is just following the script.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ducey: I believe they plan on using RNH in the Saturday game against the Nucks.

Ribs: Teddy Peckman had a pretty mediocre camp last year by my recollection. He was subject to waivers if sent down, and some people thought that was a good idea. He didn't start coming around to being half competent until things got real.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Among forwards, only the EHH Line of Eberle, Hall, and RNH have played 4 games so far, and all sit tonight.

Different story on the blue, where Gilbert, Smid, Peckham and Petry all play their fifth game tonight. Unless Whitney is somehow ready to go in Vancouver, at least one of those guys will get a 6th game on Saturday.

Originally Oilers said they'd try to play RNH in 6 of 7 preseason games, but given that the first two games were on the same night, that would have meant him playing in all of the others. I suspect the actual plan was to have him sit and watch one game and somebody just didn't clue in to the math.

    ReplyDelete
  16. the EHH Line

    The Fonzie line?

    I've made worse suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Isles are going all the way this year!

Are they really that desperate to get to the floor that they're putting Stanley Cup clauses into FA contracts?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think the +35 bonuses are a great way to hit the floor.

Only 6 years ago the cap was $39MM, now the floor is $48.3MM

Markets like NYI,FLA etc haven't seen revenues climb to match.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Is there a max bonus you can give them for a cup win? I'd give Staios $5M if they won the cup, hah.

    ReplyDelete
  20. they seem to like to drag out the inevitable

We have a tendency here to overstate the past. If you're going to risk letting one get away, you had better have a team capable of banging some heads by the time the guy turns the corner in his new situation, or the blogosphere will have nothing else to talk about other than hanging you up by your fingernails.

As a GM, I would be extremely reluctant to place those bets knowing I had a solid four years of suck stretched out in front of me. It would be like passing a gas station in Kenora with the needle well below half a tank just before heading into the Canadian shield.

I did that once--made it to the next open gas station on my reserve tank after driving for a long while at 60kph to stretch it out to the last drop, and only barely made it.

It's precisely this kind of premature hardening of reputation that drives these management fears. Blow off a couple of iffy prospects at the outset of the lean years, and you'll shortly be labelled something extremely unpleasant that will haunt your gravestone.

If the rebuild is fermenting slowly while the fans are suffering but the seats are full, be mighty prudent about unleashing the bear spray.

Dragging out the inevitable has a large negative consequence to short term performance, against a small positive contribution to long term reputation (not acquiring the nickname of doom ought to count, don't you think?) What would you do?

Yzerman can make decisive moves. His aura is presently Halar grade, if he cares to risk it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. that defense corps is putrid.

and it's not good with 6 either

    ReplyDelete
  22. This year's lineup looks nice.

I'l give the runner a chance. Carolina's stanley cup defense was as putrid as this one.

We never know what a summer can do.

    ReplyDelete
  23. And Horcoff is our Brind'amour. Right?...........

    ReplyDelete
  24. Does anyone have a link to teh stream for guys outside of Alberta?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Uhhh... firget it, guess I have the feed anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Every cliche available from these Minny broadcasters. Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Fedun lost that battle with Latrendesse easily, that kind of thing might get him sent out. Dubnyk looks good and Gilbert was solid on the PK.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This Minnesota broadcast is pathetic.
The commentators are brutal, & at least one of them has been drinking
(unless slurring is an accent now?)
& that giant wild watermark over the play is ridiculous...WTF?

    ReplyDelete
  29. While true, we have to at least give credit for the shittiest camera angles in hockey history. I don't think the camera men are in the arena.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That camera down low from the corner for the first part of the PP was pretty awful, too. :(
Glad they switched to something more conventional.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why do I get the feeling we're going to be seeing a lot of 2 on 2s turning into something dangerous...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Feel like I'm watching a broadcast from the 80's...

Superimposed scoreboard, organ in between plays, broadcaster from Slap Shot. Good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why are my ears & eyes are being violated simultaneously???

    ReplyDelete
  34. 365... That is an unforgivable insult to the glory that is 80's hockey.
If you've ever watched a game without Ad's pasted all over the boards(some glow now!)
& NOT felt like something is missing, You know what I mean.

    thono: thoNO You Did-nt

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nice to see the Oil winning the occasional draw.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wraith - There's a fine line between insult and homage.

If you squint, you can almost see the 'North Stars' logo.

    ReplyDelete
  37. How many times does Chorney have to be beaten from the puck before they give up on him?

I like how the one guy keeps calling the other guy "Bab".

    ReplyDelete
  38. Did Dubnyk grow a couple of inches over the summer? Dude is huge.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Really? I think the announcer is pretty decent. He actually knows the names and numbers of all players on both teams, describes the play well without going off on off topic tangents, and shows some knowledge of both teams.

Funny that Hemsky has already ran into Belanger. He ran into 3 of his own guys in his first preseason game. I've never seen a someone run into so many of his own players.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Really?... I'm still trying to figure out who that Randy Jones is on our team?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wait, you mean Hemsky is playing in this game? When does the football game start...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ribs: They`re saying he`s 6'6" now.
I'm pretty sure he was listed at 6'4" or 6'5" last year.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I like Dubnyk. No drama, stops the puck when he has to. Good enough to get a decent team into the playoffs, but will this be a decent team?

Hemsky I fear gives the young players a pass first mentality. I think he's incredibly overrated by most Oiler fans. Hemsky probably shouldn't even play on the powerplay, because he never seems to do anything except kill off the penalty for the opposition.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, Hemsky's the problem.

Thats what i like about this site. people are willing to take off the oiler googles and really look at the options.

2 years ago hunter would have been way off.
but people are able to see, what was 2 years ago, is not what it is now.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just an opinion.

I haven't seen Brule in so long I must have forgotten his number. Brule would be perfect for the leafs.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Smid played that beautifully. He sure has learned. God.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Fedun hurt badly, they haven't replayed it and I didn't see it the first time. Anything?

    ReplyDelete
  49. That's the third time I've seen Smid wince after taken a routine hit this preseason. I saw it last season too at times, so not sure what to make of it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Feel bad for Fedun, he's being playing well enough to have a shot at an NHL career.
This is a huge set back for him.
    Hopefully it's not too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If you're trying to say Hemsky doesn't produce on the powerplay then you need to click on his name in the "labels" as this has been done to death.
Sh!t!! Now Look What You've Done!!!
    typing crap like that.
    booma: how terribly ironic.

    ReplyDelete
  52. thats a dirty play. Fedun's gonna be gone for a long time...

    ReplyDelete
  53. So this is what the Oilers would be like if the last two years of terrible hockey never happened?

    *yawn*

    ReplyDelete
  54. Did anyone see the Fedun play? It would be great to have a description.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Van Diest tweets...

It appears that #Oilers D Taylor Chorney is not on the bench. Ryan Keller takes a shift on defence with Fedun hurt and Peckahm in box.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nystrom was really careless with his stick on a race for an icing. Put his stick in between Fedun's legs going full speed into the end boards.

Feduns likely gone for a long time(i'm no doctor). looked similar to the Foster play three years ago. Probably not quite that bad, but definitly NOT GOOD.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Nice move by Lander on the PS. Don't think Doug Jarvis had that move.

    ReplyDelete
  58. it's a leaf: Thanks. That's too bad, it was a good story (Fedun). Hopefully not as bad as it obviously appeared.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I happy Lander scored. I'd decided his entire NHL career hinged on scoring on the penalty shot.

    Otherwise I'm afraid he'd be a bust.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Geez, at the rate our d-men are going down the Oilers will have to call up Musil by the end of October.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Regarding Fedun:
It happened pretty fast, but it looked like Nystrom was reaching for the puck to beat the call. His stick got inside Fedun's legs, a little like a a 'can-opener'. it was enough for Fedun to lose his edge and he went into the board legs and tailbone first. It was pretty quick and the feed isn't great but I suspect that's why the stretcher was brought out.

    Regarding Lander:
    Nice move!

    ReplyDelete
  62. It would be a terrible decision to keep Brule over Lander. Brule is having an aweful camp and always seems to be out of position and losing puck battles.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Whats up with Chorney?? Keller's on Defense...

    ReplyDelete
  64. It was like Iginla on Souray. Not really dirty in a malicious sense, but careless and no respect for the other players' safety.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hunter,

Last year Hemsky was 3rd in the entire NHL in pts/60 5v5, behind only Crosby and H. Sedin.

I don't see anyone saying he's better than those two, son I don't think he's overrated.

As for 5v4, I will agree he's struggled a bit last year, but I think a big part of that is the system.

He's had good years on the PP.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Terrible way to end an otherwise impressive training camp. Hope he's alright. glad to hear Lander isn't a bust... whew.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Well, Tambo said they'll make a move "when they need to". I think having 4 NHL defenseman its time. Tambo "needs to" get on the ball

    ReplyDelete
  68. Chorney apparently hurt too. Thank goodness we have enough depth on the blue.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'll bet Teubert really wishes he hadn't got in that fight now. He would've had an opportunity now...

    ReplyDelete
  70. The announcer just said "hemsky was hooked in the backside"

    ReplyDelete
  71. it's important for all these kid forwards to show well because eventually some of them are going to have to be moved for real dmen.

we've got about ten 5 or 6 candidates and two top four guys and one of them literally has ankles of clay.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anyone else catch the yawn by the colour guy?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Bob and Jack are saying we're down to three D-men. No Fedun, Smid or Chorney on the ice or bench.

    Dear lord.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Surprised MPS isn't getting moved back there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'd be on board with offering MPS and our 1st next year for OEL from Phoenix. Am I nuts? Would they bite?

    ReplyDelete
  76. So, does Fedun keep getting his NHL salary or does he get AHL salary. For a guy in his position it's a meaningful difference.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Renney talks to Petry and Potter after the game, "Are you guys healthy" both nod in confirmation. "Congratulations, you both have made the team!"

    ReplyDelete
  78. At what point does Tambellini do something, anything about the defense?

I bet he still is "going with the guys we have".

    ReplyDelete
  79. book¡e:
If I am remember correctly, The Oilers have a good reputation of doing the right thing in these situations. "Once an Oiler" an all that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. The Hemsky, Belanger, MPS line has zero chemistry. Its enough to make you miss the MacT blender.

    ReplyDelete
  81. //Surprised MPS isn't getting moved back there. :)//

It is an EXHIBITION game. Why would the Oilers risk a valuable asset doing that?

Filling in whereever necessary is basically part of the job description for depth guys like O'Marra and Keller.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ryan Dittrick | edmontonoilers.com "With 18:30 remaining, a race for an icing turned ugly. Minnesota's Eric Nystrom ran Taylor Fedun hard, recklessly and thoughtlessly into the end-boards. The 23-year-old screamed in pain and was assessed by medical staff from both teams before being carted off on a stretcher.

Theo Peckham came to his teammate's aide, engaging Nystrom in a brief scurmish. Peckham picked up a two-minute roughing minor, while Nystom was charged with boarding (and a game misconduct)"

    ReplyDelete
  83. Dittrik makes it sound alot worse than itsaleaf. hope the kid has a smooth recovery.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Woodguy:

I like Hemsky, and hope he retires as an Oiler.

That said, I also like the Wild play by play team. The announcer sounds like an old timey hockey announcer, and the colour guy sounds permanently drunk - the way it ought to be.

I'm also realising that for the entire century I've blotted out the existence of the Wild - still somehow thinking the North Stars are around.

    ReplyDelete
  85. "Smid right shoulder, Chorney right knee and Fedun right leg will not return."

    ReplyDelete
  86. Welcome back Studwick???
    God I hope I'm kidding...

    ReplyDelete
  87. Struds knew if he stuck around long enough his time would come!

    ReplyDelete
  88. The Oilers are first on the waiver wire. That is likely to be better than McCabe.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Bryan McCabe on a one year deal now does seem like a good idea. What so called "depth" we had has now evaporated.

    ReplyDelete
  90. No you just have to hope no one gets hurt tomorrow night.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Is it bad that we are handicapped by 50 contracts during the preseason?

    ReplyDelete
  92. The Oilers "depth"on defense was always a mile wide and an inch deep.

If losing three AHL calibre defensemen leads to the kind of panic I'm seeing, it really speaks to how poorly Tambellini has prepared his team for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  93. JUST ONCE I'd like to see Hemsky try and stuff it in shortside instead of circling the net...

    ReplyDelete
  94. At least the Barons are wining tonight...

Radio guys are speculating FEMUR injury for Fedun. That's a nightmare.

    ReplyDelete
  95. *winning. The Barons are winning. Not wining. That's Khabby.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Nicknames Inspired by that last sequence: Hartikainen: Raging Bull
    Omark: Lighning Bug.
Probably too long to be catchy.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'm loving the gumption shown by the Oilers in the third. Didn't see this much in the last few years.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Ryan Parent is on waivers, Anders Erikson is also a free agent...not sure he's a better option than McCabe.

    ReplyDelete
  99. For some reason I don't believe the play by play guys when they say Feduns right femur is broken. Any confirmation from anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  100. flash in the pan himself ties it up.
    Haters gonna hate...

    ReplyDelete
  101. A lot of try in this group tonight. Good to see.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Is Hemsky hurt too? I think we're watching a country song.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Don't worry. Pierre-Marc will certainly put us out of misery soon enough.

    ReplyDelete
  104. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Oh Brule, for all the good things you do, you do 5 bad.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I really dont think 67 is making the team. 2 cent head

    ReplyDelete
  107. Brule can't even stay out of the way while his linemates score...
Or: I never thought Brule would hinder Hordichuck's scoring numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  108. If that bonehead play does not get Brule sent down nothing will

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think Brule is contageous now. He's depressing me. Poor guy.

    ReplyDelete
  110. what was Brule thinking? that was brutal. away from the play a split second before the aborted goal.

it's like he wants to be cut.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Aside from one nice scoring chance a few games ago, Brule has looked consistently brutal.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Thank Christ he doesn't have Poti's eating disorder.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Gilberts played 30:27 already. Good time to get his cardio up, I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Spit my beer, Wrath. He just keeps saying it.

    ReplyDelete
  115. "lower level ticket for college students for $35.00"

    $35.00??!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. heads up recovery by Petry. he's good, even when he's bad. which is good.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Google says he's saying it correctly, though.

    ReplyDelete
  118. This Marcus Paajarvi guy looks good, and Anton Lander is going to be a very good hockey player. The Oilers won't keep him--two rookie C's is unlikely--but Brule better mind his p's and q's.

    ReplyDelete
  119. $35.00??!!

Yea, but does it come with a burrito meal? (Coyotes style)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Really impressed with Lander. Has that calmness and control in his own zone. He always seems to make a play.

    ReplyDelete
  121. "Zid-lick-y" is how I thought it was pronounced.

    ReplyDelete
  122. well, while Fedun's laid up maybe he can design some really amazing hovercrafts or robots. A robot defenseman perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  123. Who are the star players that the announcer keeps saying we lost to injury tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Nice angle to make sure the refs blocks the view.

    Hipster committee manning the cameras.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Apparently you can say it however you like after 6 pre-game beers.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Sam Gagner, watch out! Anton Lander on the scene!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I missed the SO order but NAILed it on the epic comeback call. Whooo!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Lander apparantly doesn't understand we always lose to the Minnesota Wild.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Lander or Brule?

Don't like to make a decision on one period of one game, but over the course of this preseason, I don't think it's that hard a call.

    ReplyDelete
  130. fpb: I think it's determined on which area of the parking lot you left your vehicle.

    ReplyDelete
  131. //Sam Gagner, watch out! Anton Lander on the scene!//

Shawn Horcoff can play left wing too, y'know.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Omark with the fancy skate about and Lander with the quick shot. We won in Minnesota!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Lander = "Money"
    Hall = "Chance"
    RNH = The Nuge

    ...what was Ebs again?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Loved to see the team give it their all after a few injuries. It's nice to see our team not fold up their chairs and go home when falling behind in Minnie.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Its actually kind of ironic that its the Swedes who beat a Minnesota Wild.

    ReplyDelete
  136. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  137. When Lander is called 'The best young player I've ever played with' by Jamie Lundmark, and Brule is in the 'potential Raffi Torres' group, we have a better perspective on the probable outcomes of their NHL futures.

    ReplyDelete
  138. *trying to think of good young players Jamie Lundmark would have played with*

    ReplyDelete
  139. This year's lineup looks nice.

I'l give the runner a chance. Carolina's stanley cup defense was as putrid as this one.

We never know what a summer can do.

    Fake Oilexchange:

"Jeebus, they're falling for it again."

"Ask for a new arena again. Quick."

    ReplyDelete
  140. ..what was Ebs again?

    The Brain

    Also,

    Brule doesn't have Raffi's game.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Spector tweets...

Oilers reporting that Taylor Fedun's injury is a complex fracture of the right femur.

Okay, I believe you now, Bab.

  142. Ribs. I don't know the answer to what I'm sure was a rhetorical question but it got me researching the 1999 draft.

Weak! 12 of the 1st round picks didn't play 100 games in the NHL and the later rounds are just as bad. Except of course Detroit who managed to pluck Zetterberg in the 7th round.

  143. Lundmark played 29 games with a 19 year old rookie named Anze Kopitar in his rookie season when he finished 3rd in rookie scoring behind Malkin and Stastny.
    Just sayin...

  144. Also played with a 20 year old Deon "Douchebag" Phaneuf

  145. Yea, Lander's way better than Kopitar. ;)

  146. Complex femur fracture is very serious. I really feel bad for that kid, he's in real trouble.

  147. I happy Lander scored. I'd decided his entire NHL career hinged on scoring on the penalty shot.

    *shrugs*

    It worked for Pouliot.

  148. If we are always trying to find a shooter for Hemsky, why not try Lander. The nuge is a passer more then shooter, same with Gagner, and Belanger had zero chem with Hemsky. I would love to see Lander with Hemsky in a few games.

  149. Was at the Oil Kings game tonight, Bunz looked very solid for the first two periods (didn't see the third)

  150. I suspect they mean "compound" as in the fracture broke through the skin rather than complex. Also called an "open" fracture sometimes. Lost in translation.

Not always a big deal. Some debridement and antibiotics do the trick. The real question is the location (intra-articular vs extra-articular) of the femoral fracture and the degree of communition. That will determine prognosis.

Nonetheless, I would guess he won't be playing tomorrow. ;)

  151. Not to generalize, but I'm going to say that any time both team's training staff are on the ice it's a bad thing.

  152. Foster took nearly a year to get back playing. I don't know if Fedun's injury is as serious, but this is not what his career needed.

  153. hallsy04 Taylor Hall tweets
Hoping for the best with Fedun. Need to get rid of touch icings. If not this kind of thing will keep happening.

    He said it right.

  154. I realize it'll be a week old by next Saturday, but I hope Cherry keeps banging on the touch icing drum.

Not only does it make good sense, it'd probably add an extra 30-60 seconds of actual playing time to each game (as it spares the slow skate back to touch the puck)

  155. C'MAN boys. Nobodys holding a scientific calculator against Lundmarks comments. It's a way to frame the suggestion that Lundmark thinks Lander is one of the best young players he has seen. It's mostly worthless but it counts for something when youre comparing him against a guy that shot the moon on his draft day.

    and also to add...

    complex fracture,
a closed fracture in which the soft tissue surrounding the bone is severely damaged.

  156. As an aside, Fedun even looks like Kurtis Foster. Hopefully that's where the similarities end.

  157. Actually can see on twitter that Hall is taking flack for making his comment, and he deleted it.

People are stupid. If this isn't an argument for no-touch icing, I don't know what could be.

Plus, this seemed like a pretty stupid waste of a game to have a bunch of players injured for no purpose.

Small sample size, but sure doesn't look like there's an adjustment to the WHL after training camp. Very nice start.

  159. oh ya ... and Bunz ... 35 saves on 38 shots for the win. 5-3 for the Hat
