An article today from Jim Matheson tells us Jason Strudwick is staying in shape just in case the phone rings. He's at the Perry Pearn 3-on-3 camp and can be ready at a moment's notice.
The call might come well into the season, and I think there's a chance the call might come from the Oilers should they encounter their normal run of injuries.
Why? Coach and team are comfortable with him and he'd be a welcome addition to the room.
My review of his season is here.

Where would a "Strudwick signing" be on the depth chart of moves?
ReplyDeleteAfter Petry, Chorney, and Potter but before Teubert, Fedun and Plante? I don't understand why, in that situation, they wouldn't just sign Helmer to an NHL 2-way deal (he is still playing for the Barons right?) and call him up.
Jason Strudwick.
ReplyDeleteThe player with the lowest talent/GP ratio EVER.
Nothing surprises me regarding this management group - this included.
ReplyDeleteUntil proven otherwise, they have the unique ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Tyler Dellows mid-summer review of the Oil for The Globe & Mail summarizes it all perfectly.
C'est la vie.
Nothing surprises me regarding this management group - this included.
ReplyDeleteWTF? What is "this"?
Its Tambo's fault that Strudwick is keeping in shape and hoping for a call?
Given the issues with the 50 man and the glut of 5-6 defencemen on this team, Struds ain't coming back.
Ducey: Seems that you think 3.1 has sailed on when it comes to Struds - and given the contracts issue today you are right to think that signing him would be impossible.
ReplyDeleteBut we don't know who will be sent back to juniors and what might happen in camp. And given the penchant to go w/guys your familiar with versus people who really can fill a need at the major league scouting level, I won't believe that the door is closed on Struds until the coffin is shut and nailed.
I just have less faith in management than you.
Where would a Strudwick signing be on the depth chart of moves?
ReplyDeleteSomewhere after the Oilers sign Dellow and I.
Tambo, if you are reading this, I will gladly yuk it up in the pressbox and be a turnstile on the ice for league minimum. Call me.
I hear he's good in the dressing room.
ReplyDeleteI would HOPE they'd give Potter a shot before Strudwick. Hell, I'd rather them give freakin' Cory Cross a call before Strudwick. He's god awful.
ReplyDeleteMoreau is a standout defensive forward who could ease the loss of Michal Handzus and Ryan Smyth while providing leadership for the Kings.
ReplyDeleteTSN sure has Ethan nailed.
TSN must not have updated their profiles since 2007 or so.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Ducey's right - we can't blame Tambo for Strudwick staying in shape. That being said, I do wonder whether the Oilers have advised Strudwick that they definitely won't be re-signing him, even in case of injury. If they have in fact reached that decision, I think they'd owe it to him to pass that on. And you have the impression, reading that article, that Strudwick's been told no such thing.
ReplyDeleteBring back Ulanov.
Moreau is a standout defensive forward who could ease the loss of Michal Handzus and Ryan Smyth while providing leadership for the Kings.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how accurate that once was and how completely off-base it is now, it would be great if the Oil Change crew junked the propaganda project for next year and instead put together a detailed documentary on how theformercaptainethanmoreau's career unravelled.
I'm hard-pressed to recall a more dramatic shift from beloved heart-and-soul guy to local pariah, especially without any one single incident to point to as the cause.
Disregard my earlier comment (except the part about Ducey being right); I misread the article as being about Strudwick waiting for a call from Edmonton.
ReplyDeleteWait a minute, who said the Oilers would sign Strudwick even if injuries occur? Taking the fact that Struds is trying to stay in shape in case a call comes somehow equates to the Oilers being interested in his services at some point? Where does it say that?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't and no one is claiming that.
ReplyDeletea chance of 43 returning?
ReplyDeleteChrist.
Could Pearn teach Strudwick to skate backwards?
ReplyDeleteThat might help.
