Lander has struggled offensively since Valentine’s day, and by struggled I mean by a lot. In his first 42games, Lander was 9-14-23 -4 and since I bought my heart shaped pizza he’s 6gp, 1-0-1, -10. What happened? He’s playing the same minutes, he’s improved in the faceoff circle? Whaddup? Don’t know. Earlier in the season he was on a line with Bjorn Svensson on what looked like a 3rd line, but lately he’s been playing with more talented wingers in Matt Murley and Jamie Lundmark on a 2line.
Lander's scouting report on draft day suggested he had a future in that difficult 3rd line checking role:
- Lander is a two-way checking forward with excellent outside speed. He can make plays at full speed and controls the puck with a lot of confidence. A very unselfish player, Lander is always aware of where his teammates are and makes good crisp passes. He is a hard working forechecker, keeping his feet moving all the time. With a strong quick release wrist shot, he often uses d-men as a screen off the offensive rush. Lander drives the net hard with and without the puck and doesn’t quit on the puck until the whistle goes. Reliable and disciplined, he brings a consistent effort to the rink every game and always improves his team’s chances of winning a game. Will adapt and play any role given by coach."

How is this post possibly related to the Penner trade...I need answers.
ReplyDeleteKidding...any chance we see him in Edm/OKC this year..?
Gerta: From what I can tell tomorrow's game has no playoff implications (meaning Timra is toast).
ReplyDeleteSo, they could bring him over right away I'd guess. We'll see.
It would be great to see him on this side of the pond this year.
ReplyDeleteAre there any contract issues that would prevent him from being able to play in OKC?
be nice to see Lander either with the big club or the ahl team. Maybe he ah team and let play in meaningful games. or bring him up and put him with Omark and MPS and see what an all swede line can do.
ReplyDeleteAnd while were at it. try gagner at lw in place of hall and see how he plays there.
I sure hope they send him to OKC in favor of the big club; it's going to be a train-wreck here the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteWord is if they lose tomorrow, They get relegated to a lower division so it makes sense to bring Lander over if that happens
ReplyDeleteinteresting decision on whether to bring him over or not to finish the year in OKC.
ReplyDeletethey'll be looking to make the playoffs so I wonder if they'd chance him in the lineup.
I'm not saying he's not better than some of the guys taking a spot right now but I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.
Dennis: From what I can tell here is the C depth chart in OKC:
ReplyDeleteMoran 61gp, 17-34-51 +4
O'Marra 46gp, 2-19-21 +11
Kytnar 58gp, 7-10-17 Even
Vande Velde 60gp, 9-4-13 -18
I think they could use some help, even if it's just some 4th line and maybe PK. If Lander's healthy of course.
Plus, Moran is on a one year deal (UFA) so there's no guarantee he's back.
ReplyDeleteOne of Lander or Pitlick would have to make that team next year, no?
Lowetide, I hate to tell you but alot of the time, the numbers are lying.
ReplyDeleteBrocktw: So Vande Velde IS having a great season?
ReplyDeleteThank you sir!
ReplyDeleteO'Mara looks like he's figured out how to be an effective 3rd line AHL'er...maybe earns a better audition for our 4C?
ReplyDeleteHey LT,
ReplyDeleteI did a shift-by-shift game report on Timrå's game vs. SSK the other night. A hugely important game; the winner hada chance at a playoff spot, while the loser would likely end up in relegation play, or perhaps even direct relegation.
Lander got a goal, but his play lacked intensity throuhgout the night. Lander mainly took offensive faceoffs, and didn't do terribly well there. My guess is 3 for 8 on the night, all told.
I liked his positioning defensively, but he was generally pretty anonymous. Is being anonymous in a game of this importance good enough, considering he's a 19 year old playing against men? Dunno, I surely didn't "see him good".
See the prospect stats thread at HF for a shift-by-shift description.
Thanks for the scouting report, Peter. I've also been following the SEL mainly via the hockeystats app available on android. From its lines function, it looked like Lander centered the first line with Lundmark and Murley most often. Looks like goaltending has been a concern with this team all season.
ReplyDeleteIt looked like the Hirschovits/Pikkarainen line was the 1st line, tbh. Lander's line did draw a tough match-up though. Call it a late-90s Oilers team, where the checking line is effectively the 2nd line.
ReplyDeletePeter: Very cool, thanks for that.
ReplyDelete-10 in 6gp looks horrible, but what is it compared to the rest of his team, and what has Timra's goaltending and defense been like?
ReplyDeletethe 1-0-1 over that time is a bit more worrisome but it is a small sample size and lots of good players go through stretches like that.
Goal and an assist for Lander today. It's not a good team, but I think his performance is pretty low on the concerns list.
ReplyDeleteThat win was huge, though.
ReplyDeleteLast game of the regular season. If they'd tied or lost, Timrå would've been relegated directly. With the win, they'll play a small relegation tourney.
@Peter
ReplyDeleteWhen does this relegation tourney start or is that a just prior to next season thing?
Seems I've been misleading you guys - teams 1-8 go into the playoffs, 11 and 12 play the relegation play, while 9 and 10 go golfing. So Lander's season is over, barring international play later in the spring.

Test. Is Lander gonna come over?
