It's Christmas morning. The kids will be up in awhile and my favorite day will begin. The unwrapping of presents (no trains or work benches or kitchens for Dad to put together this year, I kind of miss it but it's also nice to be sleeping at 2AM).
I'll make breakfast (great pancake recipe plus bacon because if its the best day of the year there has to be bacon) and then nod off or play some of the new games Christmas brings.
It's a great day. I'll help peel apples and then Jo will make pies and start the turkey. We have a great turkey this year, grain fed and no additives or something (I have no idea, but Jo-Anne is pretty excited about the turkey and she knows what she's doing).
Tomorrow and the rest of the week is for friends and shopping and hockey and other things, but today is family. As my kids get older (both teenagers now) I cherish these days even more; one day soon one of them will spend Christmas elsewhere. I always tease Jo-Anne about that, but the truth is I'm going to miss these mornings and the sound of little running feet as much as she will. I guess that's why they invented grand children.
I want to wish you the best of the season no matter your beliefs. I hope this Christmas finds you in good health and among those you love. All the best.

The same to you, LT, and to all who post and/or read here; even Traktor and that Habs fan who loves Hemsky;)
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, LT. Your blog is one of my favorite places to go when I need an Oilers hockey fix. May you have a peaceful Christmas Day celebration!
ReplyDeleteShit, LT, you're making me nostalgic, and I'm not even a parent. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and this blog and its.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, especially Traktor, Lee, Clarkenstein, and anyone else towards whom I've been intemperate over the last year.
And, of course, right after I type "...anyone else towards whom I've been intemperate this year" and click "publish", right above my comment there's one from part of the "anyone else" I've forgotten.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Magister Rex.
Merry Christmas LT and as well to all you regular posters!!
ReplyDeleteKeep up your thorough and clever work on the blog. The thoughtful and respectful analysis by the posters on this board make it a very special place for discussion. The respect shown here is a rare thing on the web.
Best wishes everyone and have a terrific 2011!!

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Magister Rex.
lol, you'll get me all teary-eyed. Merry Christmas, "Steve". :-)
Merry Christmas to LT and all sports fans who visit the Oilogosphere (if that is even a real word)! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, feelings and opinions (and stats) on our beloved Oilers.
ReplyDeleteA very merry Christmas LT and to everyone else who reads this wonderful blog. Your website is my home page LT and I thank you for all the work that you put into it. Top of the line.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas LT, and to all who frequent this wonderful place.
ReplyDeleteMy brother has kindly given me the Oilers 10 Greatest Games DVDs so I'm preparing for turkey by watching December 30, 1981 vs. Philadelphia.
So good...
Happy Holidays to all of you.
ReplyDeleteIt's strange, I feel like I have a connection with many on this board and I haven't actually met any of you.
Take care and be well.
Merry Xmas to all... that turkey sounds good. The wife is handling that this year.. deep frying is off for this year. I swear one year it is going to be Turducken but the price makes me pass out lol.
ReplyDeleteOnce again Best of season to all.. Go Canada WJHC
Merry Christmas all. I hope everyone is in a happy place with lots of family right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I must go keep up to a three year old tornado. Wouldn't trade it for the world.
Merry Christmas to LT and to all of you wonderful posters. This site is everything great about the internet.
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing all that contribute to make this corner of the 'innernet' so entertaining, the best of the season and a healthy and prosperous 2011.

ReplyDeleteDid you get my email?
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
ReplyDeleteAnd, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
-Linus van Omark
Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas to all!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 2.5 years old and this is the first year that she 'gets' Christmas - it was a lot of fun.
Have fun everyone.

ReplyDeleteSame to you LT and all who post here
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to LT and all the Lowetider's who make this place so informative and enjoyable. Even Traktor.....
ReplyDeletehappy xmas LT! and everybody!

ReplyDeleteNothing to do until 4:00
Merry Christmas to Y'all
Clap, Clap
Happy Christmas all. Here's to you and yours and even the knuckleheads running our favourite hockey team. May the Krampus spare your children!
ReplyDeleteMerry Xmas LT and all his readers. Have a great year.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas you lot of reprobates and fellow Oil-addicts. I too got the 10 best Oilers games and look forward to watching it at some point (a small repayment for wiring and drywalling a space in the basement for the 6 year old to get his new train set and keep it away from the 2 year old. The 4 yr old gets superheroes, and that's it).
ReplyDeleteThis corner of the web has been a joy and a retreat for me to interact with all of you and I am grateful for all conversations I have witnessed (even the intemperate ones). Have a blessed day.
This is a Christmas gift for reader Peter "Ruddy Ruddy" Lynn:
ReplyDelete"The kids will be up in awhile"
Awhile, an adverb, is never preceded by a preposition such as in, but the two-word form a while may be preceded by a preposition.
Best Christmas ever. First Xmas with my new family in Peru, watched the Oilers vs Kings, with my Peruvian stepson. His first Hockey game, saw his first hockey fight, his favorite player is Taylor Hall. The boy's off to a good start!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, everyone. Have a great day and enjoy it with the ones you love.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas LT. Thank you for hosting and directing this wonderful corner of the Al Gore.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to everyone who comes and participates in the most reasonable debates about the Oilers that can be found.
What a great morning of watch my 22 month old open her presents. She doesn't quite get it, but loves all her new clothes with sesame street characters and new toys.
I will make sure to treasure every moment as I'm finding its already true that they grow up so fast.
If you are away from family and just hanging out with friends this Christmas, I suggest getting together and make this.
Just back from sister's place and watching her 3 year old on his 2nd (that's right..second) drum kit, high hat and all. Stay tuned in years to come, he may end up on youtube or on a stage near you..haha. Joyeuse fetes from Moncton everyone.
ReplyDeleteFelice Navidad everyone, from Peru and a nuevo familia of Oilers fans.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and relaxing holiday to everyone!
ReplyDeleteLT,
ReplyDeleteA 1000 thanks would not be enough for the entertainment you've provided me over the years in here. The oiler's should personally send you a christmas card because without the likes of you, I and I'm sure many others, would not still be paying much attention to the boys in blue. I'm stunned that through outlets like this have provided enough refreshing ideas surrounding the actual game itself that I'm possibly more engaged than I ever was prior to finding you.
Thanks!
Chartleys
Merry Christmas to one and all. Thank you LT for all the hard work, time and effort you put into this blog...I feel at times we steal you from your family. Please thank them for sharing you with all of us. We owe Jo and the kids a great debt.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you too to the whole community here for keeping the best hockey dialogue on the internet going. Coming here is like a Christmas gift everyday.
Cheers all.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays everyone!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays everyone!
ReplyDeleteMerry XMas to LT and the extended Oilogo family. Alot of our clan is spread around the world this year, some of them in harms way in conflict zones. You're absolutely right that you have to cherish the good times you're together. Its probably worth reminding yourself: your kids will probably miss being home on these days as much as you miss them; just the way things go.
ReplyDeleteSeasonal wishes to one and all.
ReplyDeleteA special shoutout to Lowetide. Thanks for keeping this place, and for keeping it sane.
happy holidays everyone.
ReplyDeletefingers crossed for WJC GDT!!
LT,
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and yours. A man's writing is a mirror to his character and yours is invariably of the highest quality.
But nobody likes an asskisser, so I'll stop there.
One thing I will say: I have been reading your stuff for coming up on a decade going back to HF days, and the exchange has been pretty lopsided. You bring wit, wisdom, and insight to the game we love. At best I bring grudges and sarcasm.
If you ever want to set up a PayPal link on your site I would happily compensate you for your toil: buy your better half something sparkly, get some nice craft beers, a new fangled Sony Walkman for the kids, or a vintage Oilers sweater with Lowetide #1 on the back so people could see you at the game and shake your hand & praise your greatness.
Happy holidays to the rest of you, even if you like the Leafs or the Flames.
Merry Xmas to LT and the rest of his loyal followers.
ReplyDeleteBest spot on the Al Gore.
Go Canada! and Go Oilers later on.
Thanks for all the comments, I love this place. In regard to PayPal, etc I thought about it but have gone another way.
ReplyDeleteOilers Nation compensates me very well--well enough for me to make sure my son can afford VFS when he is accepted--and I can keep this blog going without bringing dollars into it.
So it works for me and hopefully for everyone else, but I am sincerely touched by the sentiment.
When I first hit HF boards it was monitored by a guy named Kim Gernack (redtwilight). He ran HF Oilers with a stern hand and everyone respected him to the point where things rolled merrily along. It was pretty much the same when Louise was mod at HF: people respected her and kept it on the straight and narrow for the most part.
I'd like to think we have that here to some extent. God knows I've learned more from all of you than I could ever pass back, but that's kind of the point.
:-)
